Worshipping God through Everything

Worship simply refers to the act of expressing love, reverence, gratitude and adoration to God. Hebrews 12:28-29 reads as follows: “28Therefore, since we are receiving a Kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe, 29for our God is a consuming fire.” Worship allows us to connect fully with God and show gratitude and thankfulness for all He has, and still does for us. This can be performed in various ways, such as prayer or singing praises to God.

When going through a tough time, it can seem almost impossible to still praise God and worship Him with our whole hearts. People who you thought you could trust can hurt you or negative events can take place. These things can make it feel as though we become separated from God. However, it is important to remember that although as humans, we may feel like we are far from God, He is always with us. During these tough times, it is vital that we still turn to God and praise Him. Psalm 28:7 reads as follows “The Lord is my strength and my shield, in Him my heart trusts, and I am helped; my heart exalts, and with my heart I give thanks to Him.” God is there for us in all times, He is always our support and provides us with what we need. In return, God deserves utmost worship and praise.

The renowned hymn, ‘How Great Thou Art’, contains the following lyrics from the second verse and the chorus:

And when I think that God, His Son not sparing;

Sent Him to die, I scarce can take it in;

That on that Cross, my burden gladly bearing,

He bled and died to take away my sin

Then sings my soul, My Savior God, to Thee

How great Thou art, how great Thou art”

These lyrics, written by Carl Boberg, incapsulate the true essence of worship, displaying love, adoration and gratitude to God. Our worship should be primarily centered around praising God for the great sacrifice which He made for us as a human race and praise Him for loving us so much that it was an act performed willingly and lovingly. No matter how tough life becomes, no matter how much hurt is felt from fellow human beings, it is important to remember that God’s love never fails and never changes. Psalm 63:3-5 reads as follows: “3Because your love is better than life, my lips will glorify You. 4I will praise You as long as I live, and in Your name, I will lift up my hands. 5I will be fully satisfied as with the richest of foods; with singing lips my mouth will praise You.” [NIV]. Worship is a product of overflowing gratitude and love for God.

In this piece, it has been established that true worship should be a result of love, gratitude and adoration. To conclude, Psalm 100:4-5 re-highlights this core point of why we should worship. The verse states: “4Enter His gates with thanksgiving and His courts with praise, give thanks to Him and praise His name. 5For the Lord is good, and His love endures forever, His faithfulness continues through all generations.

Invitation:

Take a few minutes throughout the day to contemplate the great Sacrifice made by our Savior. It is necessary to really process how great God is, and how full of love He truly is. Thank God for doing this through a personal worship time, such as singing praises to Him and meditating in prayer.
