A Simple Truth You Need to Know: Only You Can be the Best You

I’m sure we’ve all heard it before, in some variation or another, nobody else can be you. Sure, that seems pretty obvious, right? But, how often do we find ourselves looking at others and wishing we had what they had, could do what they do, or be what they are? Guess what? You don’t want what they have, you don’t want to do what they’re doing, and you don’t want to be who they are, because that isn’t who YOU were created or graced to be.

You don't want to be who others are because that isn’t who God created you to be.

Up until a few years ago, I had major self-esteem issues. I would find myself comparing myself to others and 8/10 times. Seeing the other person in a much better light than I saw myself. Other times, it was even worse. I would look at someone else and think that I was better than them. It wasn’t until after I surrendered my life to Christ that this began to look differently. My comparison issues didn’t automatically vanish in an instant, but God began to work on my identity and self-worth. I would hear small whispers in my heart, prompting me to think positively about myself. God placed people in my life that began to speak life into me and genuinely care about who I was and who God created me to be.It was during prayer time one day when I caught myself speaking out to God and asking “Why can’t I be like [insert name here] and do what they do?” When I felt the Holy Spirit say to me, “You can’t be like them because God created you to be you, and you can’t do what they do because that is their blessing, not yours. You’re blessing is different and it’s your own.”

WOW. OKAY GOD, I HEAR YOU!

I decided to go to the Bible and see what God says about who I am and this is what I found: God created me in His own image (Genesis 1:27). Before I was born, He set me apart (Jeremiah 1:5). I am one of His chosen people and I’m called to declare His praises in the Light because He delivered me from the darkness (1 Peter 2:9). I have received gifts in order to serve others (1 Peter 4:10). And I am beautifully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:14).God’s word says those things about me but they don’t just apply to me. They apply to you to! Each of us was created for a different purpose and given gifts and talents to live out our purpose. We can’t be someone else, do what they do, or have what they have. If that were the case, who would live out our purpose? If we’re too busy trying to live out someone else’s, we are disobeying the call and purpose God has given us!

Only you can be the best you!

Choose to look at yourself through the lens that God sees you! You are purposed, you are called, and you are graced.
