8 Bible Verses Every Business Person Needs

Small businesses are defined as any establishment that makes less than $35.5 million in revenue and has less than 1,500 employees.  According to the Small Business Administration (sba.gov) there are 27.9 million small business in the United States.  Did you also know that 99% of employing organizations are small businesses?  Of those employing small businesses, 95% of them have less than 11 employees.  Chances are that if you are reading this and are employed you are working for a small business, myself included.  Sometimes it can feel as though we make little to no difference in such a big economic pond. That is why I wanted to collect 8 bible verses every business person needs to know.

Bible Verses

Psalm 5:3 - Lord, every morning you hear my voice. Every morning, I tell you what I need, and I wait for your answer. (NCV)

Begin every single work day in prayer and ask the Lord for the strength, guidance, and wisdom to complete all the tasks he has set before you for that day.

Proverbs 16:18 -  Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall. (ESV)

No matter how successful we become in business, we must always remember where that success comes from.  Give God all the glory and he will take care of the rest.

Proverbs 18:13 - If one gives an answer before he hears, it is his folly and shame. (ESV)

Always listen first and speak last no matter if the audience is a client, supervisor, co-worker, vendor, or subordinate.  Take a couple seconds to listen to God’s prompting on how and when to respond.

Philippians 3:13-14 - No, dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it, but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us. (NLT)

This Philippians verse is a great reminder to not dwell on our past mistakes and that life is so much bigger than a couple mishaps!

Romans 8:18 - 18 I am sure that our suffering now cannot be compared to the shining-greatness that He is going to give us. (NLV)

If you work long enough there will be times you get burned by a client, co-worker, vendor or supervisor.  Unfortunately, that is the cut-throat world we live in. But remember that God is always watching and will take care of you no matter what other people do.

Colossians 3:23-24 - Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving. (NIV)

I need a reminder from time to time that who I’m working for isn’t a client, corporation, or a person, it’s God himself.  Personally, this is my favorite work bible verse which I have hanging on my wall right in front of me.

1 Timothy 6:12 - 12 Fight the good fight for the true faith. Hold tightly to the eternal life to which God has called you, which you have declared so well before many witnesses. (NLT)

As believers in Christ we are called to share our faith with non-believers.  God has placed you in your role at work for a specific reason and it may be to share your story with a certain individual(s).  Remember that sharing our testimonies isn’t always about what we say, but how we act both on and off the clock.

Jeremiah 29:11 - For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. (NIV)

To slightly piggy back off of the last verse, God ordered your steps before you were even born.  He has you in this place for a reason and will use it to prosper you and use you in his grand plan.
