How Believers can Discover and Discern Their Calling from God [Podcast]

In this episode of the Good Christian Podcast, Alex Sanfilippo is flying solo! Alex had the opportunity to speak at a university in Jacksonville, Florida. Specifically, a group called CoPassion. Alex talked to them about believers discovering and discerning their calling from God. Alex's talk received a lot of positive feedback, and because of that - He has decided to share it with us here on the Good Christian Podcast!

3 Ways for Believers can Discover and Discern Their Calling from God:

I am going to make this as practical as possible. My challenge to you is for you to learn and implement the three points that I am listing below and in this podcast episode.

#1. Find your Identity in Christ

Finding your identity in Christ means that you trust God's plan and timeline above your own. His ways are higher than your ways. Life isn't about your plans, timing or ability. Life is only about Christ! Your identity cannot be in your job, your schooling, even your ministry. It has to be all about being known by God intimately and knowing Him.How can Christians find their identity in Christ?

  1. Walk with God. Talk with Him all the time. (This is your most important relationship.)
  2. Believe in the power of prayer. (Prayer moves mountains)
  3. Listen to God. Be quiet every now and then.

#2. Give 110% Today

Here’s the deal. Many of us are so focused on our future that we are not being responsible with TODAY. God has called us to be where we are today. Our job is to give 110% where we are at this very moment. Impact everyone you can for the Kingdom where you're at right now!

And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. - Colossians 3:17-24

What does a Christian giving 110% look like practically?

  1. Stay focused where you are. (Giving 110% means you don’t run through every door that opens.)
  2. Do what you’re doing for God. Never for man.
  3. Learn say no to the wrong 'opportunities' that the world has for you.

#3. Know Your Natural Strengths

This is the most practical point that I’ll share. God made you with a purpose, which means that what you’re naturally good at is going to bring you closer to God’s calling on your life. So I'll ask you now, what are you naturally good at?How can a Christian find out what they're naturally good at?

  1. Take personality tests:
  2. What (in your life) produces the most fruit?
  3. Ask people you trust what they think you’re best at.

In closing, I'm going to be completely honest with you. (I'm always honest with you, it's an expression.) I still have no idea what God has called me to do with my life as a whole. However, I know exactly what God has called me to today. I am going to be faithful with what He's trusted me with today. Every day I get closer to the ultimate purpose God has on my life.My encouragement to you is to remember that the Christian walk is a journey, not a destination. (As Christians, we take the stairs, not the elevator.)

Be on the lookout for another episode on the first Monday of every month. Until then, always remember that discovering your calling from God begins with having your identity in Him.
