Diversity and Unity In One Picture

A championship football team consists of many people. Numerous position coaches, starters, 2nd string and 3rd string players, athletic trainers, strength coaches, nutritionists, field maintenance crew, and the list goes on from those who are considered most important to least important. However, they all play a vital role in leading a team to be champions.Getting a man to the moon has a great number of people involved as well. In 1962, President Kennedy walked up to a janitor working at NASA and asked him what he was doing. The janitor replied, “I am helping put a man on the moon, Mr. President.” What a great perspective to have in what many people would see as a position unworthy of credit for man landing on the moon. A perspective that leads to a purposeful life.It is important that we play our role as a member of the body of Christ and live for the greater purpose of God’s redemptive plan for His people. Allowing God to use us according to His will starts with surrendering our pride and wants in exchange for obedience to the plan of God. If we are prideful in our thoughts, we may feel as if our role is of no significance. We must be careful not to esteem ourselves above God’s plan and take our lives into our own hands. If we accept our role and believe in our thoughts that our role is important, we will understand what it means to be the body of Christ as individual members. Our thoughts and perspective of our situation makes all the difference in fulfilling God’s purpose as a member of the body of Christ. A beautiful picture and combination of diversity and unity.1 Corinthians 12:12 - For as the body is one and has many members, but all the members of that one body, being many, are one body, so also is Christ.1 Corinthians 12:15-19 - If the foot should say, “Because I am not a hand, I am not of the body,” is it therefore not of the body? And if the ear should say, “Because I am not an eye, I am not of the body,” is it therefore not of the body? If the whole body were an eye, where would be the hearing? If the whole were hearing, where would be the smelling? But now God has set the members, each one of them, in the body just as He pleased. And if they were all one member, where would the body be?
