Do You Desire Unrighteous Wealth or True Riches?

We are all given wealth to steward.  The earthly wealth we have been given can be used in two ways: faithfully or dishonestly.  We can make the choice above, but the way in which we steward our wealth will reflect the master we serve. We are devoted to one or the other.  The master whom we are devoted to, we inevitably despise the other.

One who is faithful in a very little is also faithful in much, and one who is dishonest in a very little is also dishonest in much. If then you have not been faithful in the unrighteous wealth, who will entrust to you the true riches? And if you have not been faithful in that which is another’s, who will give you that which is your own? No servant can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money. Luke 16:10-13

“True riches” is referring to the riches of God’s kingdom and heavenly rewards for His faithful beloved.

How will God be able to entrust us to the true, everlasting riches if we are willing to squander and foolishly steward our temporary wealth in an unrighteous manner?  The answer is, He won’t be able to entrust us with His true riches.God has given us wealth on earth to use for our own glory or to the glory of God’s kingdom and serving others.

Temporary riches are not certain.

They are fleeting and desire our devotion. However, they are unable to offer true joy and satisfaction.  If we seek our joy and satisfaction in them, we will continue to chase them, on a pursuit towards emptiness.

On the contrary, true riches, promised by God, will last an eternity. While we get a glimpse of God’s true riches in his spiritual blessings now, let us endure until the end, where the fullness of God’s true riches awaits those who love Him.

To which one will you be fully devoted?

God or money? Whichever you are devoted to, you undoubtedly will despise the other.Lord, help us to meditate on your goodness and your true riches. May we use our temporary wealth to serve others and honor You. After all, it is your wealth, for you have given it to us as a gift. Show us how your true riches outweigh any amount of money or possession we can acquire in this world. Renew our minds and seal it in our hearts the glory of You and the true riches you speak of in your Word. Amen.
