Giving Greater Honor to the Part that Lacked It

1 Corinthians 12:22-26 – On the contrary, the parts of the body that seem to be weaker are indispensable, and on those parts of the body that we think less honorable we bestow the greatest honor, and our unpresentable parts are treated with the greatest modesty, which our more presentable parts do not require. But God has composed the body, giving greater honor to the part that lacked it, that there may be no division in the body, but that the members may have the same care for one another. If one member suffers, all suffer together; if one member is honored all rejoice together.On the baseball team I coach and any sports team for that matter, you could always break down each individual player and rank them from best to worst in terms of skill level, team leadership, and other traits that make up each individual. Within a church gathering we could do the same thing; rating those who seem to have a greater position in the church to share God’s Word or reach more people. However, Christ has put that idea to shame with the care for one another that He commands His Church to practice. When our focus is not on our own success or failure, we can truly honor those around us and sacrifice personal desires for the care of others. When our team is our focus, we slowly begin to realize that the plan is bigger than ourselves.1 Corinthians 12:12-13 reads, “For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many are one body, so it is with Christ. For in one Spirit, we were all baptized into one body—Jews or Greeks, slaves of free—and all were made to drink of one Spirit. I think the point is clear. We are one in the church body of believers. Do we believe this to be true in our church body? Are the seemingly weaker parts of the body indispensable to you? Do you give great honor to the seemingly least honorable? Are the unpresentable people treated with great respect and care? Are the seemingly least honorable parts of the body treated with greater honor? This all for the sake of no division in the body of believers that God has commanded us to love and whom we should bear the burdens.
