How are You Remembered in Your Documentary?

A couple of nights ago I got wrapped up watching a childhood favorite movie...Tommy Boy!  There are a lot of "classics" that I grew up with, and that is one of them.  Its one of those movies that I will always watch at least some of when I see it on TV.The movie was followed by a documentary called The Chris Farley Story.  For those of you that don't know, Chris Farley was the main character in Tommy Boy and was a great comedic actor who came up through the Saturday Night Live ranks and who tragically died at the age of 33 due to a drug overdose. So after they aired Tommy Boy they aired the hour long Chris Farley Story about his life and death.  The show interviewed his brother, friends, teachers, co-workers etc.  They interviewed actors such a David Spade, Adam Sandler, Mike Myers, Dan Aykroyd. All of these people said roughly the same thing.  They focused mostly on his genius on the stage, and how he could make anyone laugh, including themselves.  But they all said that he was amazing when he was sober, but it was obvious when he wasn't.  You could tell they all cared for him and were sad he passed the way he did, with the feeling that his life was cut short. So it got me thinking.  What if someone creates a story about me when Im gone.  What will people say when Im gone and they know I won't hear what they say?  Will it be positive?  Will I have even made enough of an impact on earth to warrant a 2 hour special on late night television? It makes me think about the bible as well.  What if the bible hasn't been written and we were the stories that people would be reading about?  Would you be like the Pharisees or Romans who are continually looked down upon while reading due to the decisions they made, or would you be like Paul who was faithful even in prison, or Peter who had the faith to walk on water?  Think about it...what story would you be?I think a lot of us would act differently and make different decisions if we knew future generations were going to read about every decision we made.  The only person who truly had that eternal focus, was Jesus, and He made the most of the opportunity He was given.Think about how different people in the bible are remembered.- Noah - for obeying and building an Ark.- Moses - for delivering the Israelites out of Egypt.- Paul - for writing the majority of the New Testament.- Judas - for betraying Jesus.- King David - for killing Goliath and adultery with BathshebaNot every thing in the bible is glamorous (see Judas and King David). Some people make wrong decisions, and it is remembered.  Just like the story of Chris Farley.  While the first half of the story was about all the joy he brought to peoples lives, the remainder of it was focused on the bad decisions he made and it ultimate downfall. What will you be remembered for?  Live out today in such a way that when you are remembered for it later, it will be an encouragement to anyone who reads it.Colossians 3:17"And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him."Matthew 28:19-20"Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you."
