I Wish I Had a "Do-Over"
So this is definitely one of those moments where I had something very specific to write about, but God put something else on my heart very strongly to a point I couldn't sleep and so I decided it was in my best interest to write it down and share.Have you ever done something (or not done something) and immediately regretted it? That moment where you walk away from a situation and realize that you made a huge mistake and wish you could take it back? Maybe you said something that as soon as the words came out of your mouth you tried to take them back, or maybe you were in a situation where you knew you should have done one thing or taken action, but for some reason you didn't and then you lost your chance. This happened to me very recently, hence i couldn't sleep. I was in a situation and had an opportunity to take action and do something, but there was an internal struggle going on within my body. My head was telling me to not do anything while my heart was literally screaming at me to take action and do what I knew to be the right thing and what I should do.Well...I am writing this solely because my head won this battle (unfortunately), and I have not been able to stop thinking about it since. I don't like using the word regret, but I did immediately have that feeling. I walked away from the situation and immediately was wishing time-travel existed so I could have a "do-over."I play a lot of golf, and while it is a very rules oriented game, there is a friendly term that is utilized in casual rounds called a "mulligan." In short, this means if you hit a shot you didn't like you can hit another one and not count the first one. Its almost as if it never existed. Its a great thing! So as I sat thinking about everything I would have done differently, God spoke to me and gave me a word that He uses similar to "mulligan." His word is much stronger and carries much more weight than just being able to hit another golf shot...His word is GRACE.Webster defines grace as: "unmerited divine assistance given humans for their regeneration or sanctification." In other words, it is God giving us another chance when we don't deserve it. He has given us the greatest grace by having His sone Jesus die for our sins, so we can be forgiven when we didn't deserve it.Romans 11:6 - "And if by grace, then it is no longer by works; if it were, grace would no longer be grace."Ephesians 2:8-9 - "For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith--and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God--not by works, so that no one can boast."Romans 3:23-24 - "for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus."So if I was to summarize these verses, God has given us all grace and we have no need to try and gain grace on our own. There is nothing we can to do gain it, that way we should always know that it came from God not from man!So I still sit here and hope and pray that I get another chance to right the mistake I made, but in the mean-time I take peace and confidence in the fact that grace has been given to me on a much larger scale.
