A Blessed Inheritance
A few years ago my roommate, and now fellow writer on this blog, quoted a scripture to me when I was on my way out the door of our house one day. I was running late and having a difficult day during what was an even more difficult season of my life. I was in a season where I felt that I knew exactly what I wanted and needed in my life but for some reason, couldn't make it happen. I couldn't seem to get where I wanted to be; no matter how much I tried to force things into place. My roommate stopped me for just a minute before I walked out the door, as I was voicing some of my frustration to him, and he quoted Proverbs 20:21 to me. This bible verse says; "An inheritance gained in haste will not be blessed in the end." He then went on to explain what this bible verse meant and how it applied to our lives. My roommate explained that even when I would feel that I am ready for something; if it isn't God's timing, it would not be blessed in the end. He explained that God's thoughts and God's ways are higher than mine. He reminded me that I need to stop pursuing my desires and remember to trust God. Because God's plans and timing for things to happen in my life will be better than what I have planned. My roommates explanation of this bible verse was not what I wanted to hear, but exactly what I needed at the time. As I left the house that day, I didn't turn on music as I normally do when I get in the car; instead, I stopped and started thinking about the words that my roommate shared with me. With tears in my eyes, I knew what he had shared with me was what I needed to hear. Over the next couple of weeks, I ended up changing my attitude and mindset in that season of my life. Today I am still able to see the benefit from listening to that Godly wisdom instead of just going with what I wanted and could see at that time. If things in my life would have ended up the way that I wanted them too at that time, I would be a mess today. I couldn't see this then, but I sure can see it now.I am sharing this story today to encourage you to take some time to think about the desires you have in your life that you may be pushing to have in your own timeline instead of waiting on God's timing. Maybe it is a job, school or even a relationship. Remember; God's timing is always better than ours. Let God take control of your life. Trust Him with your future, including the timing in which things happen. Be faithful and trust God where you are today. I can promise you that in the end, you will be in a much better place because of waiting on Him.
