Lordship
Revelation 21:5–7 (ESV): 5 And he who was seated on the throne said, “Behold, I am making all things new.” Also he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.” 6 And he said to me, “It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. To the thirsty I will give from the spring of the water of life without payment. 7 The one who conquers will have this heritage, and I will be his God and he will be my son.”
I think that one of the toughest concepts for people in the West,is the idea of Lordship. After all our individual freedom is one of the bedrock foundations of America. This idea of freedom has drifted into the modern church, and you can see this as many churches fall away from time tested Biblical teachings.
However, by not submitting ourselves to the Lordship of Jesus, we fall short of His teachings.
For instance, our view of time is not what it should be. If we were to submit to Jesus’s lordship we would be taking an eternal view of our lives. Instead, our viewpoint has changed to only thinking about the immediate future. This can be seen all over society. Credit card companies make billions of dollars because of this viewpoint. Instead of properly saving for items, people will use credit cards to purchase them now. This has ledto about $986 billion dollars in credit card debt in the United States.
I want you to pause reading this blog post and think about what a difference that amount of money could mean if we used it to the Glory of God. It may sound like a pipe dream but it is not as far out as you may think. If people simply saved that money instead of spending beyond their means that money would be available. Perhaps we are not as free as we think we are. We must submit ourselves to the Lordship of Jesus and live our lives according to the Bible.
Jesus was there when the world was created and He will be there to usher in the New Jerusalem. In fact, the above verses are located just before the verses about the New Jerusalem. It is only through the power of Jesus that all things are made new. We cannot make new things, we cannot redeem our sins. When you meet someone that has truly repented and submitted their life to Lord Jesus there is a visible difference in their lives.
This is why God calls us to be holy.
This word has taken on a new context in today’s world, but it simply means “to be set apart.” Christians are to submit every aspect of their lives to Jesus. We are a living sacrifice to the King of Kings. This means our bank accounts, attitudes, and view of people to name a few areas. It all goes before Jesus so that He can make us new.
The living water that Jesus provides is infinitely more nourishing than anything that world can offer to us. In fact, it goes even deeper than just a lordship; we are adopted into the family of God. We become the children of God and are afforded all rights and privileges of this adoption. This is what I mean by having an eternal view of our life. The reward is so great and the penalty is terrifying. We are to live a life of integrity and not take shortcuts in our lives.
James 1:8 (ESV): 8 he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.
We cannot be double minded in our allegiances in this life. It will only prove to move you away from the true foundation that is Jesus. We must pray to God that our eyes are open to any areas of life that are not submitted to the Lordship of Jesus. When we find those areas have the humility to follow the only person that can redeem every part of our life.
