Louder, Louder Than a Lion
Recently I had to drive about 3 hours to one of my sites that I oversee for work. Unfortunately (or maybe fortunately) the route I have to take is all county roads at 55mph and no freeways. Aka I drive through a lot of small towns, but it gives me time to myself with no emails, phone calls, or texts. Just me, Jesus, the radio and the open road.About 90% of the time there is always christian music going in my vehicle but at times like the above my options are limited. As I was driving cross country (or so it seemed) I came across the song Roar by Katy Perry. The song has a very catchy and up beat sound to it so I stopped and listened to it. Most secular music is so dirty and perverse that I can’t listen to it very long before I have to change it, but this song was different. There were two distinct parts of the song that God pointed out to me. It’s amazing how God can use something for his glory that no one intended to be taken in a Christian context (or maybe they did, but I’m guessing not).Now put on your Christian context reading glasses and look at the first verse of this song;
“I used to bite my tongue and hold my breath
Scared to rock the boat and make a mess
So I sat quietly, agree politely
I guess that I forgot I had a choice
I let you push me past the breaking point
I stood for nothing, so I fell for everything”
How many times have we as Christians sat back and not stood up to someone that was doing something that was out of line? I know I have, but we seem to forget that by not speaking up and doing something we are doing something. We are condoning the actions or language of whatever it is that we are not stepping up and speaking against. Proverbs 28:1 says, “The wicked flee though no one pursues, but the righteous are as bold as a lion” (NIV). And the last line of the verse is so awesome and spot on. If we don’t stand firm in Christ then we will fall for everything. Make Christ your cornerstone, strong tower, compass, fortress, headquarters, whatever you want to call it right this second!Are your Christian context glasses still on? Because here comes the 2nd part (the chorus) that God spoke to me about,
“I got the eye of the tiger, a fighter, dancing through the fire
'Cause I am a champion and you're gonna hear me roar
Louder, louder than a lion
I absolutely love the chorus of this song. As it was playing Jesus whispered in my ear, “this part is about me.” I had this image of Jesus descending into hell after he had been crucified and roaring like a lion as he entered the gates of Hell. He walked in with the eye of the tiger, fighting for all of our souls, dancing through the fire of hell as he was roaring louder than a lion. Wow, just picture it. Seriously, step away from the screen and picture it. Jesus had just been crucified and I’m sure hell was throwing the biggest party ever because they thought they had won for all eternity, but hold on! In walks Jesus roaring like a lion and coming in like a champ fighting for every soul that has or will walk the earth. Talk about the ultimate party pooper!So next time you hear this song on the radio, crank it up a few notches and think of the roar of the lion….because the roar of that lion is in you too!
