The Bible is Not Just Words on a Page

My grandfather was in high school.  He and some of his friends were home one weekend when they heard the school was on fire.  They all ran down to the school to help save the school.  He did all he could to help where needed.  As he was leaving the third floor where the flames were hottest, he noticed people taking their things from their lockers on the other floors to protect their books and possessions should the fire spread.  He wasted no time, and went directly to his locker on the 1st floor.  He gathered his books from his locker and immediately took them up to the third floor and left them there.  He realized that on Monday when the teachers asked them to open their text books he had the perfect excuse that no one could argue..."sorry teacher my books were burned in the fire!"This is just one of many stories that my grandfather used to tell us when he was alive.  One of my cousins had the foresight to sit with him before he passed and record many of these stories so we could have them as well as future generations could see some of the personality and history from one of the greatest men I was privileged to have known. As I was reading these stories this past week, it brought back fond memories of my grandfather.  I could hear him telling me these stories and I immediately remembered all the great qualities that I desired to have after knowing him. These were nothing more than words on a page.  A Microsoft Word document that had been typed by one of my cousins. But the words were at one time spoken from someone else full of life, joy and wisdom.Just like these stories that were once spoken by my grandfather and written by someone else, God saw it fit in His infinite wisdom to provide us with stories from people in the past, including His son, Jesus, to give us guidance and encouragement and laughter in our lives even today.  Think about it, how much of your life is written down?  Not much I imagine.  Aren't you glad thats not the case with the people we read about in the bible?!?!2 Timothy 3:16"All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness"John 1:1"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God"Joshua 1:8"Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful. There are countless verses in the bible that encourage you to read and understand the Word of God to the best of your ability. To consistently dive into it and listen to what God has to say through His written word.  Look at it as I do the stories from my grandfather.  These words will allow you to connect with Him (God) even though He is not physically walking the earth as a human.  Just because He is not here physically doesn't mean He can't make a difference through His words! So go read some of God's stories today...you may not be able to put it down!
