One Question Every Christian Should Ask That Makes All The Difference
A few years ago, I was in my weekly men's small group. We discussed the topic of God's Kingdom and our purpose within it. Nearing the end of our time together, I decided to ask one last question before wrapping up for the night."What do you feel like God's purpose for your entire life is?" I asked openly to the entire group. I received no immediate responses; the room got quiet. (I'm not a fan of awkward silence, but that's exactly how it felt!) But then, finally, someone spoke up!One of the guys answered my question in an unexpected way. What he said was profound and has stuck with me ever since that day. It was one of those things that when I heard him say it, something clicked inside of me and instantly changed my perspective!"I don't know what God has called me to do with my entire life." He said, "But I do know that I am supposed to ask and act upon this one question..."
"How can I advance God's Kingdom in the world today?"
Wow! What a game-changing perspective! Upon hearing this response, I immediately received a fresh revelation of my purpose in life. I genuinely believe that this is one question that makes all the difference in living out God's purpose for our lives. As believers, our job is to do good works for the Lord. Ephesians 2:10 says: "We are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do." Notice that this verse, and verses within the same chapter of the bible, do not mention when or where we are supposed to do good works. We are created to do good works daily. In Luke 9:23, Jesus makes this pretty clear: "Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me."

I believe that each of us has a specific life purpose that God will reveal to us over time. However, I also believe that successfully achieving this specific life purpose depends on how effective we are in advancing God's Kingdom in the world every day.
At the beginning of every day, I challenge you to ask yourself this question: "How can I advance God's Kingdom in the world today?"
Simply asking ourselves this question isn't enough. We must take action! Advancing the Kingdom of God isn't always comfortable or easy. However, Jesus mentions three commandments in the New Testament that have helped me stay on track with acting upon this question about advancing the Kingdom of God.1. Love God with all your heart. (Luke 10:27)2. Love and serve the people around you. (John 13:34)3. Teach and encourage disciples. (Matthew 28:19-20)
"Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me."
By remembering and applying these three commandments every day, we will advance God's kingdom in the world more effectively. These three commandments cover our calling as Christians.
Our Daily Purpose: Love God, love people, and teach others to do the same.
This is how we advance God's Kingdom in the world today; this is how we step further into our unique life purpose.
