Quotes from the King - Arnold Palmer

On September 25, 2016 the world lost a great man and golfing legend in Arnold Palmer, but he left quotes from himself as the king. Even if you don't know golf at all my guess is you know this name (even if it is just a name of a drink you enjoy). Regardless of how familiar his name is, he did so much and for so many. After watching The Masters golf tournament this past week, it seems like it was a good time to look back on some of his most memorable quotes that I took the liberty of pairing with a scripture they are similar to.1.“The road to success is always under construction.”Matthew 7:13-14 - "Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it."2. “Winning isn’t everything, but wanting it is.”1 Corinthians 9:24 - "Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize?Run in such a way as to get the prize."(Notice here it does not say to WIN it says to RUN in such a way to get the prize)3. “I never rooted against an opponent, but I never rooted for him either.”Matthew 5:44 - "But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you,"4. “Putting is like wisdom – partly a natural gift and partly the accumulation of experience.”Hebrews 5:14 - "But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil."5. “Success in this game depends less on strength of body than strength of mind and character.”1 Timothy 4:8 - "For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come."6. “The more I practice the luckier I get.”Philippians 4:9 - "Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me— practice these things. And the God of peace will be with you.7. “You must play boldly to win.”Proverbs 28:1 - The wicked flee though no one pursues, but the righteous are as bold as a lion.8. “Always make a total effort, even when the odds are against you.”Colossians 3:23 - "Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters"9. “What do I mean by concentration? I mean focusing totally on the business at hand and commanding your body to do exactly what you want it to do.”1 Corinthians 9:26-27 - "Therefore I do not run like someone running aimlessly; I do not fight like a boxer beating the air. No, I strike a blow to my body and make it my slave so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize."

He was a great man, and will continue to help many others even after his passing.  Hopefully some of his words will inspire you or point you to the Truth as they did for me.

Here are a few more quotes that I enjoyed but without the scriptural connection.

“Golf is deceptively simple and endlessly complicated; it satisfies the soul and frustrates the intellect. It is at the same time rewarding and maddening – and it is without a doubt the greatest game mankind has invented.”“When people ask what’s driven me all these years, I always give the same answer. It’s you.”“I have a tip that can take five strokes off anyone’s golf game. It’s an eraser.”“Concentration comes out of a combination of confidence and hunger.”
