You can't really know someone until you do something significant with them.
Have you ever wanted to know someone better? Maybe a person you were just introduced to that you find interesting. Maybe a guy or girl who you are interested in and have been on a coupe of dates. Maybe a member of your family that you just don't get to hang out with much but wish you knew them better. Now think about your very good friends...the ones you know better than anyone. Why do you know them so well? If I had to take a guess most answers to this question will be "I've known them forever" or "we have been friends for a long time." While time is a helping factor in how well you know someone that isn't really the reason. You can know someone for a long time and never spend time with them, thus you hardly know them. Its what you do in the time that you know these people that affects how deep your friendship is. If I look at the friends I know the best and those I consider my closest friends, they are the ones with whom I have done something memorable or significant with. Maybe it was a long road-trip that you will never forget, maybe it was a mission trip to another country, maybe its as simple as going to a sporting event or serving in church with them. The point is, if you really want to know someone on a different level you need to do something significant with them. They need to be a part your life in a way that you can find out something about them that you wouldn't have known or seen otherwise. I encourage you today to seek out those opportunities in your life to do something significant. I promise that out of it you will meet some great friends that will be long lasting.
On a side note...God is the same way. He wants you to do something significant with Him. And when you do, you will begin to understand and know HIM in a way you never have before.
Matthew 7:21-23"Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?’ Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’ "Don't let this be you...get to know Jesus!
