The Prayer We Should Constantly Pray for Our Marriage
There are many prayers we should pray to God concerning our marriage or future spouse. Whether it be our work-life balance, our finances, or other marital decision, we should continuously pray a specific prayer for our marriage.
Our prayers should reflect the reason for God’s covenant of marriage.
Let us first look at the reason for marriage. (Continue Reading: Marriage God’s Way »)Individually we are created in the image of God to reflect the image of God in all we do. In marriage, we are united in a covenant where we are to display Christ and His Church to the world.
Husbands
“Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her, that he might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word.” - Ephesians 5:25-26
Jesus Christ died for the sake of sanctifying his beloved Church, his people. He died to cleanse his people through His holy word. As husbands, we are to love based on Christ’s example of love and love our wives as our own bodies.
Wives
“Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord.” - Ephesians 5:22
Godly wives are to be subject to their husband, just as the church is to submit to the Lord. Wives submit not as a symbol of inferiority, instead, as a loving submission to a sacrificial, loving husband.
Love and Respect
“However, let each one of you love his wife as himself, and let the wife see that she respects her husband.” - Ephesians 5:33
The commands of marriage are summed up in two words. Love and respect. If we are to put on display the mystery of marriage, we are to follow the commands as husbands to love our wives and wives are to respect their husbands. As Christ first loved us, husbands, we must first love our wives. We are the head of the marriage just as Christ is the head of us. If we desire our wives respect, we must first love her according to the love Christ shows to His people. Our marriage “refers to Christ and the church” (v.32). For this reason, our constant prayer for our marriage should reflect the purpose of our marriage.
