Praying for No Snakes

Recently, I journeyed through the foothills of New York on an overnight, 12 mile backpacking trip. As I hiked through the woods, I found myself praying to God that I would see no snakes on our adventure.I don't like snakes! There is something about how they slither out of nowhere. They slither right in front of you.  Leaves me screaming as if I'm under attack. My reaction is rather ridiculous, and only happens when a snake startles me.As I was praying to have a snake free adventure, I felt God whisper to me, how do I know seeing a snake isn't good for me? Along the hike, I contemplated these words wondering what God meant and thought about how seeing a snake would help me overcome my fear.

Your Will

No one wants to face difficulties in life. As Jesus was about to face the crucifixion, he prayed, "Abba, Father," he cried out, "everything is possible for you. Please take this cup of suffering away from me. Yet I want your will to be done, not mine." Mark 14:36.

As Christian's, God's will is what we seek. It is natural to desire the road of comfort and to avoid difficulties. There will be times you face a circumstance and think, "if only this happens, then everything will be okay". It takes great faith to pray and trust God with our situations.When you face challenges that you don't understand, remember:

Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take. Proverbs 3:5-6
