What Does True Confidence Look Like?

I have been thinking about what it means when people speak about confidence and being a confident person. The world heralds it, as an excellent quality to have, yet what is it exactly? How does it look? Here is the definition:Confident: feeling or showing confidence in one’s abilities or qualities or showing and feeling certainty about something. (Synonyms include self-assurance, positive, optimism.)

It is probably one of the most spoken-of topics in youth circles, and a characteristic everyone wants.

When I read the definition above, it shows that confidence is in no small degree dependent on one’s self-efforts. This puts a lot of the pressure on us. What about when your skills and knowledge fail you? What if you (heaven forbid) make a mistake? How will your confidence recover, if the source of it (You) has blown it?So then, how exactly do we approach this concept of confidence?

In Philippians 3:3 (NKJV) we read, “…rejoice in Christ Jesus and have no confidence in the flesh.”

This sounds like the opposite of what the definition above says, right? The way the world defines confidence and the way, we, as believers define it, is not the same.

Having confidence in your own good works/strength/abilities will bring disappointment.

I am sorry to burst your bubble, but it will. This is why we needed a savior, to save us. We needed a redeemer, to redeem us. We needed a perfecter, to perfect us.

Hebrews 4:15 (NKJV) says, “For we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses but was in all points tempted as we are, but without sin.”

Jesus became the curse so that we could be blessed. He became poor so that we may be rich. He took on death so that we could live. Receiving a relationship with Him liberates us from all the self-reliance because then we can truly surrender to Him. He becomes the source of all confidence.

Have confidence in Him, because unlike us, He is faithful, consistent and never-changing. However, you cannot have confidence in someone you don’t know, right? That would not make any sense.Get to know Jesus. He is always inviting you into a relationship with Him, to like Him and to start trusting Him. Then your confidence will grow into something more significant than what the world offers you.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r32B_vLqC-Y&start_radio=1&list=RDr32B_vLqC-Y
