Trust and Submit to God When We Really Don't Want To
God is an interesting being. Even though he has more wisdom than humans have ever had or ever will have, He makes a point to share his abundant wisdom with us from time to time.Much of that wisdom is at odds with what we’d prefer to be doing though. When his wisdom says turn the other cheek, we want to strike back. When his words say be quick to listen, we’d prefer to talk. When his guidance says love our neighbors, we don’t want anything to do with our neighbors. And that’s just His word that is already in scripture for us to absorb. He often speaks to us directly with the Holy Spirit. And those words don’t always make us comfortable either. In fact, those words from the Holy Spirit often test us.
Letting Go of the Guardrails and Trusting God (Submit to Him)
A couple of months ago, I shared with everyone how I was going to put full control of my career into God’s hands. I’ve done that for the most part, but I still have my hands on the guardrails. Why would God want me to make such a drastic change in career? Why would He want me to get so far out my comfort zone? Why would He want me to potentially leave the city I love? Those are the thoughts that run through my head during this time of prayer and petition. Nothing about what He’s saying to me makes any sense, but I’m choosing to submit anyway. I'm choosing to trust Him as he slowly unveils what's in store.

That’s all God asks us to do—trust in Him. He doesn’t expect us to always understand. In fact, He knows we usually won’t be able to understand. However, He ask us to lean into Him so we can persevere and grow.
Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight. - Proverbs 3:5-6 (NIV)
Are you going through something similar? Maybe God is asking you to forgive the mother you haven’t spoken to in several years. Perhaps the Lord is prodding you to adopt a child. God may want you to start a friendship with the elderly lady two houses away. Maybe the Lord wants to you to go into the full-time mission field.I don’t know what your test is, but I am praying for you to be able to listen and respond to what God is asking of you.
