What is My Value?
Finding your value in man is wrong, but finding your worth in the Man is what we are called to do. “Cursed are those who put their trust in mere humans and turn their hearts away from the LORD….But blessed are those who trust in the LORD, and have made the LORD their hope and confidence” Jeremiah 17:5-10In my past, I have been absorbed in establishing my self worth in how I'm treated by my relationships.. I would look to my relationship and have my value defined by how much time he wanted to spend with me or how much attention he gave me. I was going about things misguided to the truth. I allowed his actions to depict my happiness and confidence. How could I expect to find perfect love in a man who is imperfect? I was seeking the impossible and setting myself up for defeat. Many of us are setting impossible expectations in relationships, we go into them looking for what the other person can do for us, but that is not how Jesus modeled his relationship towards us. He came to this earth and gave us His all without expecting anything in return. The perfect illustration is found in Ephesians 5:25 it says, “Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her.”It was not until I was out of that relationship was I able to open my eyes to Gods reality. Man will repeatedly fail us because we are human and imperfect, but we have been given something so much greater. The Man who handcrafted us is the one who declares our worth. He will never fail us nor forsake us. He paid the ultimate price for our sins to expose his immense and undying love for us. If we look to Jesus for our worth, we will grasp that we are of highest worth that he would lay down his own life. Romans 5:8 states “But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Yet how could God love us if we are full of sin? God made us righteous not because we deserve it, but because he loves us. In spite of our sins he showed us infinite worth that God gave us his son. Our perspective and worth needs to come from the one who created us, Genesis 1:27 says “So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.”We serve a God who has ultimate authority over his creation, meaning He who made us has domain over what we are! In Psalm 139:14 it says, “I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.” We are not perfect, neither is any man, but we serve a perfect God that if we seek Him whole heartily, He will instruct us into Godly relationships where worth will not come from man, but God alone. Matthew 6:33 “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” Make God the center of all relationships and there your soul will prosper, for you will know your true worth.
