We Are Far Too Easily Pleased

We are half-hearted creatures, fooling about with drink and sex and ambition when infinite joy is offered us, like an ignorant child who wants to go on making mud pies in a slum because he cannot imagine what is meant by the offer of a holiday at the sea. Lord help us. You offer us infinite joy in you, yet we seek our joy in worldly offers. Offers that leave us empty and will one day no longer be.
We turn to good things in our lives and make them our ultimate joy.
We seek comfort as if its promises are better than Gods. Comforts are seen as a blessing for ourselves. We should be forsaking our abundance of comforts for your namesake. Our families become the source of our joy rather than recipients of the love we hold when you are the source of our joy.

Money becomes our source of joy to where we work tirelessly to attain the next promotion and next means of income at the expense of the infinite joy that awaits us when we wholeheartedly seek you.
Seek Him
God has provided us with good gifts. But we have to stop treating them as our infinite joy. We must see them as a means of God’s grace and an avenue to which we make God known and pleased.Rest in and be pleased by Him and His word. Find pleasure in Him. If this truth doesn’t dictate how we use our gifts from God, we will always strive to attain the everlasting joy that is only found in Christ. Let us seek Him as David did. “O God, you are my God; earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you; my flesh faints for you, as in a dry and weary land where there is no water.” - Psalm 63:1
We are far too easy to please
This simple statement alone is convicting.We live our lives in such a way that our temporal achievements and material possessions determine our fruit more than our holiness and righteousness. God sends His son Jesus Christ to die for us. That we might be holy and righteous and display the fruits of His Spirit.
Infinite Joy
He is our infinite pleasure. Our hidden treasure! “The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and covered up. Then in his joy he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field.” - Matthew 13:44The hope of eternal joy is unsurpassable by any earthly joy. Persevere in the race for an imperishable crown. Trust God who holds true to His promises of a hidden treasure far greater than any other treasure. In a world that promises infinite joy everywhere we turn, may God be our only source of infinite joy.
