Why Are We Here? God Knows, So Don't Worry About It!

In my work, we do many presentations to other companies trying to pitch them on our services. When we begin talking to them, we always have one slide at the beginning of the presentation. It is titled, 'Why Are We Here. The purpose here is to make sure, up front, that everyone understands the purpose of the meeting. And to ensure we are not trying to trick anyone. We want the client to know from the very beginning what our intentions are. This keeps them from having to guess at it throughout the entire meeting.

As a follower of Jesus, one of the most asked questions is “why am I here?”. We all want to know what our purpose is on this earth. We would love for Jesus to sit us down. Similarly to the way my work does it, sit us down and walk through a slide that explains in detail what our purpose is.

I want to make sure we are all clear on a couple of things today if you are still asking the question, 'Why Are We Here?'.

1. God does know what His purpose for you is.

You should take joy and peace in the fact that the creator of the universe and the one who molded you with His own hands is thinking specifically about your life. He knows exactly what He wants for you and has the plans in place for this to happen. We shouldn’t worry about why we are here (1 Peter 5:7). God already knows the answer! He WILL show us when we are ready to know.

"For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future". - Jeremiah 29:11

Just think about it. If someone decided to give us all the knowledge we know right now, when we were 4 years old, we wouldn’t have understood nearly any of it. Instead, it is spread across our life at times where we can actually understand it. God works in the same way and knows when we are ready for different pieces of information.

2. Everyone has one of the same purposes.

We are put on this earth to share the love of Christ with others. By doing this, we spread the name of Jesus and allow others to know Him through our actions. While there may be detailed, exact purposes laid out for each of our lives, Jesus gave apparent instructions to each of his disciples. His instruction was to go out and make disciples. This purpose will always be here! Even if you have an evident understanding of what God's purpose is for your life, this should always be at the forefront of how you live your life.

“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit." - Matthew 28:19

In summary, God knows what His plans for you are. If He hasn’t told you what they are yet, continue to follow the purpose, He has given to all of us. Love each other and tell the world about Jesus.
