Why Do You Hide Yourself, Lord?

Why, O Lord, do you stand far away? Why do you hide yourself in times of trouble? In arrogance the wicked hotly pursue the poor; let them be caught in the schemes that they have devised. For the wicked boasts of the desires of his soul, and the one greedy for gain curses and renounces the Lord. In the pride of his face the wicked does not seek him; all his thoughts are, “There is no God.” His ways prosper at all times; your judgments are on high, out of his sight; as for all his foes, he puffs at them.Psalm 10:1-5This Psalm spoke directly to my heart because I often times think about why the wicked seem to get away with evil and their ways always seem to prosper in this present life. And according to Psalm 10:5, those whose thoughts are, “There is no God” experience exactly that. They experience constant prosperity because they don’t highly esteem the Lord’s judgment because it is far out of their sight. However, the way in which they prosper leads to death and separation from our Creator. They prosper in their own wicked way because they live as if there is no God. But God has promised to deliver us from our enemies and grant us everlasting life by His grace through our faith. In verses, 14-15, David is asking for God’s help according to his just and perfect ways. David then ends this Psalm with the following 3 verses expressing confidence in the judgment of God.The Lord is king forever and ever; the nations perish from his land. O Lord, you hear the desire of the afflicted; you will strengthen their heart; you will incline your ear to do justice to the fatherless and the oppressed, so that man who is of the earth may strike terror no more.Psalm 10:16-18How comforting to know the Lord is king forever. That He hears the desires of the afflicted, strengthens their hearts, listens to us, is just to the fatherless and oppressed so that man of this earth my no longer strike terror. While the wicked seem to prosper, in the end, we have the victory over our enemies because Christ is our victory.

He has already delivered us and fear has no hold on us.
