Why Our Satisfaction Comes from Connection
Are you dissatisfied with your life? Statistically, most of you reading this are. In this post, I am going to explain why our satisfaction comes from connection.In America, over 75% of people are unsatisfied with their job or career field. This statistic alone is staggering. Most people are going through life, spending most of their waking hours engaged in something that brings them no satisfaction. This is no way to live this precious gift called life.We all have dreams! We all have desires! And we all have ideas about what will bring us happiness. Many have spent their lives chasing dreams, chasing riches, chasing romance, and many have achieved what they thought would finally satisfy them. All to find the longing remains and end up singing U2, “I still haven’t found what I’m looking for.”
Can you relate? I know I can.
That’s right where I was when God reached down into my life. C.S Lewis stated it beautifully, "If we find in ourselves a desire that nothing in this world can fulfill, the only possibility is that we were made for another world.”Our loving Savior, who the scriptures say can relate to us in every way (Hebrews 4:14-16), speaks directly into this area of need, this longing for satisfaction. He declared, "I am the Bread of Life. The person who aligns with me hungers no more and thirsts no more, ever.” John 6:35 MSG. I love this rendering in the Message. Here we see Jesus declare himself to be the source of all true sustenance and satisfaction. This world promises that its glittering trophies will satisfy, but Jesus shows us how to achieve lasting contentment in Him.
Catch the principle: Alignment. Connection. What we are connected to influences what we receive in life.
Take people, for example. If negative people surround us, what do we get? Negativity. If your friends do drugs, it won't be long before you try them too. If your friends complain, you’ll start whining soon enough. And so it goes. If our life connects to the pursuit of money, we will get money. You get the idea.We are connected to many things in life, but there is also one main thing we choose to connect with, sometimes unconsciously; the thing we believe will satisfy us. Money, status, possessions, relationships, family all can become our one thing. But Jesus says, “I am the only source that satisfies forever(paraphrased).” Everything else may satisfy for a time but will always leave you wanting because you were designed to align with him. He is the very source of this thing called Life.
So how can we align with Him? What does that mean? What does that look like?
Every situation in life allows us to align with Jesus. To align our thoughts, motives, actions, and speech with that of Jesus. We can choose our response. The responsibility is ours. Jesus himself said, “I did not come to do my own will but that of the Father.” In other places in scripture, he said, “I only do what I see my Father doing.” While on earth, Jesus was a man who the Holy Spirit empowered and enjoyed an intimate relationship with his Father in Heaven. Because of Christ’s work on the cross and our saving faith in Him, we know are likewise empowered by the Holy Spirit and can develop an intimate relationship with the Father.

I submit to you: Be a person who aligns with Jesus in this life. As you go about your days facing triumphs and challenges, dinners and diapers, bills and birthdays, work functions and fights, let the questions of your heart always be, “Lord, how can I align with Jesus at this moment?” And let your response be “Yes” before He answers the question.In this, His Kingdom will come, and His will be done on earth as it is in Heaven.
