God wants to hear about your life from YOU, not others.
I have a friend who has a hurt foot that bothers him from time to time. He was telling me recently about his most recent battle with this pain. It was severe and happened prior to church one evening where he would be on his feet for the majority of the night. He said he thought to himself, "I really need someone to pray over my foot." But then God was clear in speaking to him and simply said, "why don't you pray for your own foot?"DONT OVERCOMPLICATE ITI love the simplicity of God sometimes and how He tells us things that make perfect sense, even if we failed to think about it that way to begin with. In my friends instance, it obviously would have been easier to simply pray for his foot himself. Sometimes we as humans tend to over-analyze things.MAKE IT PERSONALBut after hearing this story something really hit me as its something I do quite often myself. My friend went first to others to have them pray for his foot. Now this doesn't mean that he just doesn't know how to ask God for things. I can assure you that he will be the first to intercede for you in prayer about anything should you ask. However i find myself falling into this trap as well, the trap of not prioritizing your own life and own personal communication with God.I love praying for others and communicating with God for those in my life who I love and care about. However, I find myself thinking that God is too busy for some of my own problems. I also will ask others to be praying about a situation that I may be facing, but again, focus on others in my own personal prayers to The Almighty.God created the communication between humans to be personal. While he does encourage us to pray for others and lift up and intercede for others, He does NOT want that to take the place of us coming to Him about our own lives. Its called a "Personal Relationship with God" because that's what its intended to be...PERSONAL. One of my favorite topics to write about is community and how God calls us to have Godly community with others. I don't write about this topic as much because I don't want it to sound selfish.I think about the demonstration by flight attendants when you fly on an airplane. They tell you that if you need to use the oxygen masks, they will fall from the ceiling, and to first secure your own before helping others around you. Now some people will respond to this and say that we should put others before ourselves. And yes that is how Jesus operated, so I am not saying that's not how we should operate as well. I'm saying that, just as Jesus did, we need to find time to be ALONE and pray for OURSELVES. During the busiest of times in Jesus's life, He made it a point to separate from others and pray to the Father about Himself (Jesus) not anyone else.Luke 5:16 - "But Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed" Make it a point to not only be by yourself in prayer but to pray for YOURSELF. Continue to pray for others, but don't let that replace the need to pray for your own life. God wants to hear about you and what you are going through.God wants to hear about your life from YOU...He doesn't want to hear that from other people!
