Accepting God's Schedule Change

I had the honor of being a camp counselor at an FCA Golf camp this past week.  So you may get a few stories over the next couple of weeks from this camp!If you have ever been to a summer camp or something similar you remember that the schedule is pretty strict.  There isn't a whole lot of free time because you want to get as much accomplished in the short amount of time that the kids are there.  Last week we pretty much went non-stop from 6:30am to 1:30am every day. Needless to say, I now need a vacation from my vacation!At the beginning of camp, all the leaders were together going over the schedule and getting ready for the week and hearing from the chaplain and he camp director.  One of the last things that was said to us was one of the most important throughout the week. It was a simple statement, but the camp director looked at us and simply said, "be flexible with us."  What he knew was that something was going to come up.  Maybe weather would affect one of the activities, or maybe they would decide that something didn't fit and needed to take it out of the schedule.   He wanted to make sure that we would be supportive of all the moves made and not become frustrated because it is going against the original schedule.  In short, he was right and it happened multiple times throughout the week, but every time we adjusted and allowed the schedule to fit to what it needed to be.Looking back at this I take away a couple of truths from it that I wanted to share today.TRUTH #1: Trust and Obey the Authority Above YouI was able to trust and obey the leaders at camp because I knew they had a much bigger picture and understanding of the schedule and what needed to be happening.  I was so hyper focused on the individual kids and activities that I couldnt see past that.  Of course that was the purpose of me being there.  If I tried to focus on something bigger, then I would have taken away focus on the real reason I was there, the kids.  The same is true in all of our lives.  We are hyper focused on individual tasks and days in our lives.  We have to believe that God understands and is in control of our steps.  We have to believe what Jeremiah 29:11 says (that He has plans for us).  God is the ultimate authority in your life, but He also places people above you to help carry out his direction for your life.  Don't rebel against authority, but trust and obey it!Romans 13:1-2"Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. Consequently, whoever rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves."TRUTH #2: Be Flexible When the Schedule ChangesI know that everyone reading this has had a moment in their life when they wanted something to happen faster than it has, or maybe they have had something happen sooner than they wanted it to.  We are trained in the world we live in to be very time focused, very schedule oriented.  The problem with that is that when the schedule changes, we usually get frustrated and allow it to affect us negatively.  But if we think about it, we should be happy that our schedule is being updated to reflect where we are currently.  As hard as it is sometimes to live spontaneously you have to believe that its not really being spontaneous when God changes your path/schedule (because he knows every step you will take from here until the day you die).  I am speaking out of experience here, just ask my girlfriend who has been trying for a long time to get me to be more spontaneous.  Its not easy for me, but I just keep reminding myself that my schedule is not God's schedule.   And HE has the right to change it if he wants to!Habakkuk 2:3For still the vision awaits its appointed time; it hastens to the end—it will not lie. If it seems slow, wait for it; it will surely come; it will not delay.Psalm 27:14Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the Lord!Ecclesiastes 8:6For there is a time and a way for everything, although man's trouble lies heavy on him. Take these truths and start to live your life in a trusting manner, knowing that God wont just change your schedule for the sake of change. There is always a reason, and always a greater purpose that will ultimately glorify Him!
