Buried Treasure

I don’t want to screw up but I do.  Why does life have to be this way?  Why couldn’t Adam grab Eve’s wrist and take the apple from her hand before she could take that first bite?  Would it have even mattered?  If Adam and Eve could be duped that easily what’s to say they wouldn’t have eaten the fruit later?  At least in this life we will never know the answer to those questions, but does it really matter if we know the answers to those questions?I have a feeling God asks the same question to us when we can’t forgive ourselves for past sins.  “Does it really matter?  I don't even remember this thing you are holding onto, I’m just waiting here anxiously to spend time with you in the present.”  Meanwhile we are missing a golden opportunity to find all the hidden treasures he has for us throughout the day.Speaking of treasure, did you hear in the news this week that someone literally found buried treasure off the coast of Florida?  Supposedly it is from a Spanish ship that sunk over 300 years ago.  What would your reaction be if you found hundreds of gold coins in some random spot?  Guess what, God puts treasures like this in every single day of our lives.  Now, I’m not literally referring to God putting gold coins in random places for you to find.  They are little moments woven into the fabric of each and every day that remind us of God’s love and presence.Have you ever experienced God’s presence?  What’s your most treasured spiritual moment?  Do you long to go back to that moment(s); those moments when you experience a warm and tingly movement in your heart and a feeling of ecstasy coursing through your veins?  At the same time there is a sudden feeling that nothing else in the whole wide world matters….If you answered yes or answered with an intimate moment, then cherish those.  But don’t live just in those moments, talk to your heavenly father and ask him to bring you new ones to add to your collection.  This is what’s hand stitched into every waking second here on earth.  And every moment is unique to you and you alone.  This is the buried treasure that is worth more than all the gold and silver in the world. And do you know what God’s greatest treasure is?  It’s you!

Deuteronomy 14:2 – “for you are a people holy to the Lord your God. Out of all the peoples on the face of the earth, the Lord has chosen you to be his treasured possession.”

Please take some time today and ask yourself if there is anything keeping you from receiving the buried treasures God has planted for you.  Do what Adam didn't and stand up to the enemy and take back your focus on the one true God.  Fix your eyes on him and he will direct your paths.
