Allowing God to Transform Us Into Who He Has Designed Us to Be

One night I was lying in bed at 2 am, not able to fall back asleep. I was in a season where I was honestly “too busy” for God, and I was putting my relationships and career over my time with Him.  I was not operating in my purpose. Maybe you have found yourself in this place as a believer. You once had this drive to spread the gospel around all parts of the world, but now you are serving at church out of duty, rather than passion, to reach people. You wake up without joy, are spending hours at work stressed out, and cannot wait to get back into bed.

Awake

I was a woman awake but partially asleep in the physical that also translated into the spirit. The Holy Spirit woke me up this night to put the once strong, burning fire back in me. My spirit was stirred up, and I felt this overwhelming love and desire in my heart for the things of Him. God loves us and comes after us.The Holy Spirit kept me up and put a word in my spirit… butterfly.I studied all about butterflies as a child, but what did that have to do with me now? I stumbled upon this online as I began to research butterflies again:“How does one become a butterfly?” she asked.Someone replied, “You must want to fly so much that you are willing to give up being a caterpillar.”My time as a caterpillar expired. God had awakened a passion inside of me that was stronger than what I ever had before. God did not design caterpillars to stay caterpillars forever, but they were made to soar and become beautiful butterflies with purpose.

Transformation

For God to take us to where He has called us to be, we must be willing to submit to His process of metamorphosis. Metamorphosis is defined as a change of the form or nature of a thing or person into a completely different one by natural or supernatural means.

For God to take us to where He has called us to be, we must be willing to submit to His process of metamorphosis.

He wants us to be the hands and feet of Jesus. I was no longer the old me with the baby mentality. As a result, I had to walk, talk, act, and think differently. Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.” (2 Corinthians 5:17)

The Holy Spirit At Work

During a caterpillar’s transformation in its pupa or chrysalis phase, its body is completely dissolved into a liquid with digestive enzymes that are already inside of a caterpillar. The Holy Spirit is inside of us and will change and mold us into what He needs us to be if we are willing. We have to surrender control. Though this process may be painful for God to break down who we are, it is oh so worth it!Allow God’s word to transform you, spend time with Him in worship, and surround yourselves with strong believers in the faith to help encourage and lift you up if you fall.Butterflies are animals known as pollinators that cause plants to make fruit. Without pollinators, there would be no fruit. Isn’t it beautiful how God gives us these examples in nature? We are not meant to live for ourselves. Souls are out there waiting for us to reach them--the lost and the broken.

The Result

I submitted to the process. Now, I have focused on the things of Him again. I serve at my church with excitement to impact the lives of other people. God will continue to grow you every day and use you in ways that you would never have imagined. A purpose-driven, God-first life is way more satisfying than any life we could ever come up with for ourselves. Let us be a generation fully awake, ready to grow, transform, and take on this world with a life of purpose!
