The Broken Bone Story
Below is a story that happened just this past weekend to a close friend. I have broken it up into sections because I felt it needed to be separated to show the power of each.Part One: A Broken BoneWhat Happened: A dear friend of mine broke her leg this past weekend. I don't know all the details but these are the highlights. She was out of town spending time with her family when she was in an effort to protect her daughter from getting hurt herself. She came down wrong on her leg and it broke both major bones.Take-Away: If we look back throughout our lives, especially our childhood how many times can we see something that we thought would be a lot of fun that our parents wouldn't let us do? Probably a decent amount. Parents have a keen sense for how to protect their children. God has the same ability and desire. If you look back at your life through that lens I am sure you can see how God has protected you from certain things (relationships, careers, accidents, etc.). Romans 8:28 And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.Part Two: Getting to the HospitalWhat Happened: Luckily her mother was nearby to help her call an ambulance to get to the hospital but she was also able to get ahold of her husband who was no less than 5 hours away in Atlanta. Upon knowing she was going into surgery, his response was without hesitation to get in his car and go to her, despite the long drive. On his way, he let his father (who was 3 hours away from Atlanta) know that it would help if he could help by taking care of the dog while he travelled to his wife. So he left where he was and went to get them.Take-Away: I love this part of the story, because when it came down to it, no one ever hesitated to come to the aid of my friend. When she needed them the most they did everything in their power to help, much of which would have normally seemed like an inconvenience (long drive). On a similar note, I also found out from my friend that their church family has scheduled out meals for them for an entire month! Thats true family love! 1 Timothy 5:8 “But if anyone does not provide for his relatives, and especially for members of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.”Final - Part 3: The SurgeryWhat Happened: The surgery was successful as they put a rod in to put the bone in the right place so it could heal correctly. The bone was a complete break, and as you can see from the pictures you can't even tell where the break was now that it has been set back with the rod in place. The picture in this post is the actual image of her broken bone and metal rod solution.Take-Away: We are all broken in some way or another in our lives. We have all sinned and fallen short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23). But by accepting Jesus, God has taken us and set us back in place and begun the process to heal. Now my friend's bone will never be as strong as the metal rod they put in, but the rod is there as a guide for the bone to mimic and grow next to. God sent his son Jesus (John 3:16) to give us a guide, something to look to as to how we should be living and growing. We will never be as Jesus was, but we aren't called to be. We are simply called be as close as well can (1 John 2:6), and the result will be a strong life that is pleasing to God while we are on this earth. For those of you who need closure to every story, my friend is resting and recovering now, with everyone back in their home in Atlanta.
