Day to Day Life with the Trinity

God is love, it’s His very nature and, despite ancient Greek philosophy’s infiltration into our western theology, Yahweh, our God, is not like any of the gods of ancient Greek mythology. Yahweh is not like the god of thunder, Zeus, who was said to be the ruler over all the other gods, the most powerful and totally singular and separate from all others.

Our God has never been separate, or alone for even a moment. Yahweh is and has always been about relationship. Three in one, He was and is and always will be, community. Despite humanity’s tendency to make it otherwise, there is no patriarchal hierarchy within Trinity.

Father, Son and Holy Spirit, three in one, doing life together, creating together, demonstrating love together. As Jesus said to his disciples, “if you’ve seen me, you’ve seen the Father,” (John 14:9) and the Holy Spirit “will take what I say and tell it to you,” (John 16:14).

It’s into this intimate dance that you’re being invited to participate, co-labourers with Christ, in Christ. Yes, it’s enough to make your head spin but that doesn’t negate its beauty!

And it’s from that position of intimacy that Jesus reminds us not to worry, tells us that doing so is a pointless exercise, and since God knows what we need anyway, the real focus is about seeking His Father’s Kingdom (Matthew 6, paraphrase). As we explore doing life with God, putting Him first, seeking first His Kingdom, how do we do that within the context of life with the One who is first and foremost about Us?

Confession time: I’ve read Matthew 6:33 so many times over the years and yet it was only as I was exploring “seeking His Kingdom” again this time, that I finally got the revelation of Jesus’s heart.

I always thought “seek first the Kingdom,” was about making sure you got in enough quiet time or finding a way to fit ministry into my working week. In my head, it was always about something “out there,” more doing, when all Jesus ever really invited us into was the intimate circle of Trinity. Living day-to-day life from within the awareness and reality of God’s ever-presentness.

Here’s the whisper I heard as I journaled with Holy Spirit:

“I don’t want to do life with you to the exclusion of all other things or all other people. I want to do life with you, all of life, and be a part of the adventures you have with the people you care about. I love them even more than you do so why would I ask you to neglect them in favor of our relationship? That’s not what this Kingdom life is about at all!

Chase after the things I’m inviting you into. Run towards adventures with me. Everything that I invite you into will help advance My Kingdom—on earth as it is in heaven—so all I’m really asking you to do, is to trust the nudges you hear from me and act on them. When you do, you can be certain you’re stepping into my best, and I will meet your every need.

I know what you need before it’s even a consideration in your mind. I go ahead of you preparing the way, and I’m right behind you, protecting and guarding your footsteps. The more that you move with me, the more you allow me to open all of your senses to how I’m moving, the more I can bless you.

And not just you. You’re blessed to be a blessing. Move with me, allow my blessings to overtake you, and watch as the people around you are blessed too. They won’t always understand from Whom the blessings flow, but you know, and I’ll give you the words to explain when words are needed.

Simply do life with me, trusting that I know what I’m doing, and allow our relationship to flow from that place of belonging.
I love you with an everlasting love. Live today from slap bang in the center of that love. That’s how you seek first the Kingdom.”
