Dream Bigger

What is the biggest dream you’ve ever had? As we navigate through life, our dreams are always changing – dictated by circumstance, what we value, and the opportunities afforded to us by our careers/affiliations/financial horizons. What if I told you that God can put a dream in our hearts, and within a year, blow that dream up – into something that we, in our wildest imagination, couldn’t have postulated? I broach that question because that’s what God does.In the past couple of years, I’ve had the privilege of becoming friends with some very successful Christian businessmen. While their individual walks have been vastly different, I’ve noticed a common theme – God gives them a dream, they visualize that dream, and then they execute that dream. Here is where it gets really cool, for some of them, their dream was too small – a man sized dream – and I got to witness, first hand, God expand that dream into a God sized dream.See, our dreams, regardless of how large, can always be bigger. We tend to set our dreams in terms of how man thinks – “I just want to graduate school, I just want a decent job, I just want to get married.” But, God has different dreams for us – “I want you to graduate school with honors and a PhD, I want you to have a job that fulfills you and provides for you abundantly, I want you to have a Godly marriage – a blissful marriage that elevates you, thus elevating your whole family.”Notice, the dreams I discussed above aren’t easy to achieve. They’re really hard. Here’s the thing, those dreams aren’t built overnight, and God has a plan to build us into the people capable of achieving every single one of those dreams. It’s a day to day process – it takes discipline, perseverance, and quite honestly – some grit. Waking up early and doing devotional in the mornings, working long nights and weekends, and most importantly – complete surrender to God.I consider myself surrendered to God, yet am I completely surrendered? A friend of mine walked through this recently – he was looking at buying land he would use for a non-profit. He first looked at parcels that he could pay a large sum of cash for. God told him it was too small. He then looked at significant pieces of land that would require him to take out a loan – yet he could have still paid the loan off by himself. God stepped in, too small. God had something much bigger planned – my friend surrendered himself to God, put his full trust in God, and put down a contract on a piece of land that he could have never paid for by himself. His vision was to buy a small piece of land and build up a ministry – God’s dream was beyond his wildest dreams.Dream bigger. Dream wilder. Develop a vision. Execute that vision. Be patient in the meantime. Dreams don’t always develop overnight – sometimes they take considerable preparation – but they are always worth it.
