Unpopular Opinion: Failure Is An Option
We live in a society where people are fascinated with others' failures. We watch 'fail' videos. The internet is full of 'fail' memes and videos. We share 'failed' moments of others' lives. Why we find joy in others' defeat, I'll never fully understand. I find it so interesting that we are so quick to judge and condemn someone for failing when really we're the ones who are looking at it the wrong way. They didn't fail. They just found one way not to do it.
Everyone is so quick to point out others' failures but at least that person had the courage to try.
Just like the light bulb, within 110 years, there were over 17 men who tried to recreate and modify the light bulb. After every unsuccessful attempt, they all said they just learned one way not to do it. At least they had the courage to try and keep going despite any opposition they may have faced along the way.
Can you imagine if any one of them would have given up because of the naysayers around them?
Thank the dear Lord that men like Thomas Edison, Joseph Swan, Irving Langmuir pursued their passion over what other people said they should do.Imagine how many times you've sat behind your computer, or peered through your phone, and laughed or even commented on others' failures at success? How many times have you laughed in the face of their adversity rather than encouraged them through that hardship?
Imagine the people you can inspire rather than downgrade.
Although it may seem harmless and funny to you, they are reaching for a goal or dream, and all they need is someone to encourage them, not to discourage them. You sit on your couch laughing, but at least they had the courage to dream and actually try. Without any effort to try, nothing will ever be accomplished. Those who fail have a greater chance at succeeding because they are not concerned with the voice of those around them. They know that their dreams will carry them through the doubts of others. That small voice inside their head telling them to get back up and try again will outlast any negative comment from those who are too lazy to get off their butt and attempt anything. Their dreams and goals will still be there at the end of the day when the naysayers are too concerned with how others will view them, too concerned even to try!
If we never allow ourselves to fail, how can we ever learn to succeed?
It falls back to that old saying, “You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take." – Wayne Gretzky (Michael Scott)
"Success is not built on success. It's built on failure. It's built on frustration. Sometimes it's built on catastrophe." -vSummer Redstone
The one thing we need to remember is that failure is not our result. The only failure is when we try, fall, and never get back up. So long as you have the strength to stand back up on your feet and keep moving forward, you'll never truly fail. Surround yourself with those who will encourage you to keep going, inspire you when you're lacking motivation and will help pick you up when you aren't strong enough on your own.
"For the righteous falls seven times and rises again, but the wicked stumble in times of calamity." - Proverbs 24:16
Success starts with a dream and is accomplished with every choice you make along the way. Make the choice to keep dreaming and going towards that dream wholeheartedly.
