Get Another Boat!
Luke 5:5-7"Simon answered, “Master, we’ve worked hard all night and haven’t caught anything. But because you say so, I will let down the nets.” When they had done so, they caught such a large number of fish that their nets began to break. So they signaled their partners in the other boat to come and help them, and they came and filled both boats so full that they began to sink."Most people read this verse and see the miracle that Jesus did allowing Simon to catch fish after having worked so long all day and caught nothing. Simon obeyed what Jesus said and great things happened. Thats a lesson in itself. But thats not what God showed me...What happened next is HUGE! Read it again (below)..."When they had done so, they caught such a large number of fish that their nets began to break. So they signaled their partners in the other boat to come and help them, and they came and filled both boats so full that they began to sink."Simon had JESUS in his boat. And when he saw that his boat was not going to contain all that was being done, he called his friends to help him carry the fish. This is how God created us and a great example of what Church is all about. God did not create us to go through life alone. He knows that we need help along the way and more importantly He knows that when He really does something in our lives, that we will need help to effectively share it with others.Just think, if Simon would have tried to do it on his own, his boat would have sank, and all the fish would have gotten away. Instead, he asked for help and was able to carry much more and deliver food for many many people on land. Simply put, if we allow ourselves to be helped by our brothers/sisters in Christ then we will be able to help spread the love and knowledge of Jesus to others who may not be in the boat.Sometimes you have to learn the hard way. God taught me through an injury in college how to do that. I was always someone who didn't ask for help. I hurt my back in college and had to ask for help with even the simplest tasks of carrying books to class. It was humbling but it taught me how important my friends and family are. It also taught me how much greater of an impact you can make if you work together...This is the Church, people working together to spread the love of Jesus.
