Is My Heart a Palace Fit For a King?
I was at church a few weeks ago and it was the first Sunday in the month, which meant it was communion Sunday. I love communion because it gets us re-focused on why we gather in our building and what our lives are all about. The sacrifice that Jesus made is so crucial, beautiful, horrifying, and the greatest love story ever told wrapped up in one. All of those descriptive words are pretty contradicting aren't they? But isn't Christian living contradictory? It’s contradicting to the secular world for sure. Contradicting to the physical world we see around us. More specifically, miracles that happen in the medical field every day that doctors can’t begin to explain. To top it all off the orchestrator, or the Alpha and Omega of the entire universe, sacrificed his son on the cross with you specifically in mind. Isn't that act pretty contradictory to what we see happening in the world today?
Before we took part in communion we watched a short video that was very well done. About half way through the video the gentleman being filmed asked a question that really hit close to home. “Is my heart a palace fit for a king?”
After hearing that I had to tune the video out and really think about that question. If anyone reading this, including you and I, were completely honest with ourselves the answer would always be a resounding no or at least not a palace that our king truly deserves. But let’s take a step back; whose perspective really matters when we ask that question? And shouldn't we go straight to that person and ask him what the answer is?
I know I’m not the only one that feels unworthy to pray to God when I've screwed up, especially when I have been screwing up multiple times in a short period of time. Why would God want to hear what I have to say? I’ll tell you why; He sacrificed way too much to have a relationship with you to throw it out the window because of a few mistakes. And do you know what else? All of those screw ups were erased before you even became into existence. That’s what true love looks like. And thankfully we can be reminded of that every time we take part in the bread and the cup of communion.
Dear Lord, I’m so thankful for all that you sacrificed just for me. I don’t want to screw up but I do, but I’m so thankful that you love me anyways. I pray that my heart will always be the palace you deserve. If it isn't I want to make it that way so please show me the areas that need work. I’m also thankful for you continually seeking me. Even when I don't deserve it you are still there every step of the way. I love you Lord and want to know you better than the day before. Thank you for all the blessings you shower upon me! Amen.
