Hope: My Cup of Shine

The sky is dark above, and you're waiting for the sun to come out. You ask yourself while looking from afar: Where is the clear sky? Where is the sunshine? As always, whenever it’s raining, I love watching the rains gently fall. It gives me different kinds of feelings. Oftentimes, it brings not joy and hope but the opposite.  It awakens the poet in me. Really can’t help myself but be sentimental. Give me a pen and piece of paper and words pour in like water in a fountain of life. There is something about the rain that I could hardly explain.  Maybe I am one sappy soul. Yes, I am.

My Rainy Day

One rainy Saturday, I was riding in a bus, as I peered out the window, staring at every few drops of rain. I had this feeling like sadness was seeping through my being, was nursing a cold and cough, and had my asthma attacked a few days ago. I was downhearted, and my mind was scattered into pieces. It seemed as if the gloomy weather was sympathizing with discomforting feeling I had and lack of energy on that day. Tears welled up in my eyes. I could not describe what I was going through. I was a picture of a lonely face. Was it all because my health was not in the best state the past few days, the past few months? Tired of being sick or simply feeling exhausted? I just closed my eyes at that very moment and said a little prayer.

After the two hour trip, I got off the bus. And the rain finally stopped. On the next day, I woke up early and went to the church. As I walked slowly on the church’s entrance, my eyes were suddenly filled with tears. I knelt down and prayed fervently in between sobs. I talked to God, cried my heart out to Him, and left the church with an enlightened mind. My heart was full of hope. And smiles were back.

What I Realized

It may rain night and day but God promises a beautiful sunrise is on the horizon. There is a rainbow, always, after every downpour.Life is somewhat a roller coaster ride of emotions. Though it’s a cliche, it carries a lot of true.At times, everything is all sunny and favor is on your side. Blessings are pouring in. There are moments when you wish time would never stop because all you see are colors of hope, happiness, and love. It's those seasons where you jump from bed each morning, feeling ecstatic the moment you see the first light. But sometimes, life deals you a challenging blow. There are days when smiles are so expensive to give and hard to receive. You are in a sea of despondency. All you want is bury your head under your pillow or vanish into thin air. And getting up in the morning is the hardest thing to do.That's life. There are seasons of great joy and of great sorrow and some that are in between. But for every season of hardship, there is the promise of joy returned. For every down, there must be an up.

Sunshine Despite the Rain

I read a quote that says, "Life is like a canvas; and you should throw all the paint on it."Honestly, there are times when I cannot decipher how things are going on in my life. There are days when my feelings are not so easy to put into words. I am left with questions in my mind and heart.I believe all of us are passing through the same road of twists and turns, ups and downs. In life as we know it, we have to go through the highs and lows, and experience all sorts of feelings, good and bad, all of life’s beauty and ugliness. But we grow and learn from our mistakes, downfalls, and journeys to overcome the challenges that come our way. But at the end of the day, we must be hopeful and look on the positive side. We must look to the One who is our hope.

"Weeping may stay for the night, but rejoicing comes in the morning." Psalm 30:5

In the most difficult situations we may find ourselves in, we must be reminded that there is somebody we can turn to -- God. All we need is to look up far and above. We can cast away our cares and feel His love. He is present in the best and worst of seasons. We only have to set our sights on Him to feel our hope restored, to be reminded of His promise of joy in the morning. When big problems arise, in the stormiest time, He really is my cup of sunshine.
