I Urge You to Guard Your Heart [It Is the Wellspring of All You Do]

I am going to keep this post exceptionally brief today. It contains one powerful point, which may be the most important of all, especially in the times we're living in. Every single one of us needs to guard our heart; because it is the wellspring of all we do.

God is always doing a new thing.

He is into expansion. He has been expanding His Kingdom on Earth since the fall of man. Many times we think of expanding the Kingdom of God as making converts and going on missions. But God is always taking ground in the hearts and souls of men and women.Jesus said his Kingdom was not of this world. It is a spiritual Kingdom that is breaking into this world through the heart and minds of people. The Scripture says that Jesus is the beginner, the author, and the pioneer of our faith (Hebrews 12:2). To pioneer is to do something new, to start a new initiative; to travel into land previously foreign to you.

God is calling each of our to guard our hearts.

Proverbs 4:23 encourage us, “Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.” Jesus also said in the Gospel of Luke 6:45, “A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of.”

Over and over in the sacred scriptures we see that Lord is concerned not so much with behaviors as with the heart of man.

The heart of the human problem is the problem of the human heart. Therefore, Jesus is always in the process, by His Holy Spirit, of pioneering new places in your heart.

In Ephesians 4:26 – 27, the scripture exhort us, “In your anger do not sin, do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, and do not give the devil a foothold.” In 2 Corinthians 2:7 Paul implored the Corinthian church to “Make room for us in your hearts.” And so I ask two questions:

  1. where are the places of your heart that are the foothold of the enemy?
  2. Where are the places in your heart that you have yet to make room for Jesus to pioneer?
