If It's Mine, Why Do I Have to Share It With Others?
As a younger version of myself, I remember not wanting to share. Not wanting to share my room, my video games, or any of my toys. Even now, as the older version of myself, I find myself being selfish at times. If I'm honest, I find myself asking why I need to share. As if sharing my name with a state wasn't enough, ha!Sometimes I ask myself, “Why I would have a selfish nature when I know everything is a gift from God?” From talents, worldly possessions, the ability to make friendships, to talking about my spiritual walk. All of these things and many more are all gifts from God. They are not mine to keep. When God gives us everything we have, why would we not want to give those gifts to other people? The talents we have are not for us to hoard.
"Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.” Luke 6:38 NIV
What are things you have that you can share?
You may think that you have nothing to offer other people or nothing to offer the world. But God blessed you with many talents and gifts that only you can give. Sure, we may have similar talents, but no one can bless others the same way that you can. What is for you, is not for anyone else. Here are a few things God blesses us with to share with others:
- Share your wisdom with other people so they are able to learn from you.
- Your walk can be a light to others around you and talking about it can bring healing to people’s lives.
- Spiritual gifts and talents are for sharing with people in the community to spread the love of God.
- Being in the right community and sharing that experience with others will bring hope to the hopeless.
- The word of God is intended to be shared with people to bring pieces of heaven on earth.
- Discussing your struggles will heal and bless not only someone else but yourself as well.
- Opening your home and sharing a meal with friends and family helps bring a closeness that is irreplaceable.
- Volunteer your time and extend the gift of your most precious gift.
As God's people, we are able to live generous lives when we bless other people.
"And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased." - Hebrews 13:16 NIV
Surely, I don't have the same birth month as Jesus Christ.
What do you mean my birthday gifts are wrapped in Christmas paper? Yes, I really do ask this question to my family at times, ha! My birthday isn't on Christmas; that day belongs to Jesus Christ. My birthday is the day after Christmas and that warrants birthday paper. What's funny is that I don't mind sharing a birth month, isn't that interesting? When we are able to share things with heaven, why aren't we willing to share those same things with others? Besides, God's people are an extension of heaven and we are to love one another. Sharing should not be any different, and when I think about it, I find it strange that there are some things people don't mind sharing.

Can you think of some things we share with people that don't always serve a healthy purpose?
- Telling another person’s business when it's not your place to do so.
- When you get into a disagreement with someone, there is no need to spread it around.
- Gossip in the workplace, schools, and even the church community is not necessary.
- Personal conversations are personal for a reason and sharing them can hurt someone unintentionally.
- When a brother or sister in your community struggles, help them instead of judging them.
Saving your brothers and sisters from destruction is an act of caring. When we share the love of Jesus and our testimony with others, we never know who we are saving.
