May the Lord make your love increase and overflow onto those around you

I was absolutely blessed with the opportunity to be the best man at my friend's wedding last year. It was such an honor to hold that microphone, and to speak to their family and friends on that special day. It was also a responsibility that I took very seriously. If the tongue has the power of life and death (Proverbs 18:21), then operating it in front of hundreds of people is something not to be taken lightly. I wanted to make sure life was being spoken. After days of praying about what I should say, the Lord led me to 1 Thessalonians 3:12. It reads, "May the Lord make your love increase and overflow for each other and for everyone else, just as ours does for you."Is there anything more important and more attractive than a true act of love? After all, isn't that what Jesus' message was all about? He came and displayed for us the most amazing act of unconditional love the world will ever see, so that we would have an opportunity to show that love to one another. In Mark 12:30-31 Jesus tells us, "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.”At our kids club outreach a couple of weeks ago, one of the volunteers taught the kids the weekly message for the very first time. He did an amazing job. He had a few of the kids draw him pictures of a heart prior to the message. Then, during the message, he took one of those hearts and showed them that when God gave us His Son, Jesus, He gave us His heart. He went on to say, “The cool thing is, now that we have Jesus, the love of God, we can turn around and give it to someone else.” He asked those kids that very week to go out and show the love of God to someone else.Today, I would ask you the very same thing. Will you look for an opportunity to today, in some small way, to show someone else the love, mercy and grace that God showed you through His Son, Jesus Christ? It may inconvenience you a little bit and you may have to go out of your way to do so, but think about how much God was willing to sacrifice for you. God loves you so much that He sent His only son into the world to die for you. As the reality of that love fills our hearts, it moves us to a place where we are willing to sacrifice our own wants and desires in order show that love to others.My prayer for every single person reading this today is that the love of God shown to you through Jesus Christ would fill up your heart so much, that it would overflow onto those around you.
