Don't Forget to Remember

dont forget to rememberCan you imagine if you had lived the story of the Israelites & Moses?  What if you were in the group that crossed the Red Sea? What if you followed a cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night...every day/night?  What if you witnessed Moses bring back the 10 Commandments?  What if you saw food fall from the sky for you to eat every day?Surely if that happened to us we would have the child-like faith (Matthew 18:2-4) the Bible talks about, or the faith of a mustard seed (Matthew 17:20) to believe that God could do anything.  We would certainly never turn away from God after seeing multiple miracles like that!History shows us that this is not true, unfortunately.  The Israelites forgot everything God had done for them (multiple times) and continued to turn from and doubt Him.There are many things that amaze me about the human body and how we were created.  But the one that is truly remarkable is God's creation of the human brain and its capacity to remember things.  Think about it, what is 2+2?  The answer is something you have remembered since you were a little child.  The memory is a powerful thing, and one that is often used by the enemy to tear us down.  However, it should be used to remember the things God has done in our life and to continually strengthen our faith and confidence when it is tested. With that being said, lets go back to the story of Moses.  God had a vision for the Israelites from the very first moment he spoke to Moses through the burning bush.  His vision was to get them to the Promised Land.  Sometimes I just want to scream at the Israelites..."Do you not remember the Red Sea parting?!?!?! Would He have done that to simply let you die in the desert???"  Seems like that would have been a waste of a perfectly good miracle. But then I realize that we do this ourselves all the time.  Would God have allowed you to get to where you are in your life if He didn't still have a plan for you?  The answer is No.  Remember all the things that you may take for granted that God has done in your life up to this point.  God has a vision for your live and He has gotten you here for a reason.  i can promise that He doesn't plan on stopping now.  Use that knowledge, and the ability to remember, to never stop recalling the great things that have happened to you to get you where you are today.  This is the entire purpose of the Lord's Supper and why Jesus told us to do this (1 Corinthians 11:24).  He wanted us to have something that always gave us the chance to remember Him and what He did for us on the cross.  History can give you confidence and faith for what will happen in the future.  But you have to call on those memories consistently to make that work! Start remembering today!Deuteronomy 6:12"be careful that you do not forget the Lord, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery."1 Corinthians 11:24"and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, “This is my body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of me.”
