Losing Focus and Losing Sight - Part 1
What may be a difficult question to answer, can be the single question that ensures we are in a position that keeps our hearts and our minds in proper focus. Are we actively keeping our mind and soul prepared and spiritually fed? What are we consuming and focusing on to ensure we keeping the things of this earthly life in perspective? Three things can possibly help us keep our minds focused on what matters most.
It’s easy to lose focus, I know I do; especially since I don’t know the day to expect HIM…
““But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. For in the days before the flood, people were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, up to the day Noah entered the ark; and they knew nothing about what would happen until the flood came and took them all away. That is how it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. Two men will be in the field; one will be taken and the other left. Two women will be grinding with a hand-mill; one will be taken and the other left. “Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come. But understand this: If the owner of the house had known at what time of night the thief was coming, he would have kept watch and would not have let his house be broken into. So you also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him." - Matthew 24:36-44
Think of heaven
Our final destination is heaven and it’s imperative we do not lose sight of that as our goal. The things of this world are earthly things and very much temporary. We are just a mist on this world and what is here on earth does not compare to what awaits us in heaven, which is why we should not get comfortable in our present surroundings and material things.
I have found being comfortable can be very dangerous. I fall into the regular day-in and day-out routines of my life and find myself forgetting to read devotionals and that God has a greater plan for my life than what I am trying to force. This isn’t to say what we are doing is bad; however, just because something may be permissible, does not mean it is proper. This means to say, although our actions may not be sinful, if they do not glorify GOD, it’s worth THINKING twice about before acting.

When we THINK heaven, we realize that God’s word is not everyone else’s. Staying in community with people who are also THINKING heaven can help us stay focused. We must also remember, man will disappoint us, but our GOD never would.
“Do not trust a neighbor; put no confidence in a friend. Even with the woman who lies in your embrace guard the words of your lips. For a son dishonors his father, a daughter rises up against her mother, a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law— a man’s enemies are the members of his own household. But as for me, I watch in hope for the Lord, I wait for God my Savior; my God will hear me.” - Micah 7:5-7
