If it is important to you, find a way not an excuse.
"I should do that at some point...""I can't right now, but I would like to...""I want to start soon...""I wish that I could do that...""I've always wanted to do that, but...""I'm just too busy right now...""I'd like to, but I just don't have time right now..."All of these statements are considered to be 'acceptable' excuses in the world today. It's sad that we have allowed such statements to hold us back from what we claim is important to us. We use how busy we are as an excuse as to why we are unable to do something that we really want to do.To put these statements above into perspective, imagine if you said something similar to your boss at work...Boss: "I need that report before 5:00 today."Employee: "I would like to get this done for you, but I am just too busy right now."You can probably guess how the rest of the conversation would go. No employee, that values their job, would answer in this way. Instead what would happen is that the employee would re-prioritize their day in order to get what has been required of them completed on time. Why are people so unwilling to do the same in their personal lives? Is it because someone isn't standing over our shoulder saying "Do this now!" or is there another reason? The truth is, most people aren't near as busy as they claim to be or even think that they are. In general, a lot of our time is filled with things that are not important in the bigger picture. We would rather have excuses as to why we cannot do something that we claim is a dream of ours instead of actually doing it.If it is important to you, you will find a way. If not, you'll find an excuse. What is really important to you? Are you willing to change and start prioritizing the things that you claim are really important? If you are serious about fulfilling your dreams, I want to share three steps that have really helped me "find a way" to do the important things in my life:
- Prioritize - What you do with your time is extremely important. What are, or what should be, the most important things for you to do in your life? What are the things that you know you want to do or try some day. (List them out.)Teach us to number our days that we may get a heart of wisdom. - Psalm 90:12
- Time Management - Figure out where your time goes, plan your day so you can get everything done that you need to do. Make a schedule / plan to properly prioritize the things you do in your life; then manage your time to make sure you do them. (Get someone to help you if this isn't one of your strengths.)Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, making the best use of the time... Do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is. - Ephesians 5:15-17
- Seek Wisdom - Ask yourself: "What are the things that are truly important in my life that I continue to make excuses to not do?" You will be amazed how quickly you will start growing when you just keep the main thing the main thing. If you start focusing on your answers to this question, the unimportant things that you do in your daily life will begin to be replaced by what is truly important.Walk in wisdom, making the best use of time. - Colossians 4:5
