PERFECT peace is the most evident when it is the most necessary
I was having an awesome time in some private worship yesterday morning. I had my music playing, I was singing out to The Lord, and just connecting with Him. Eventually, I got down on my knees and started to pray. This incredible peace started to come over me. It was so strong that I didn't even want to get up and start getting ready for work. Then I said aloud, "Lord, I wish I could just stay here forever." As quickly as those words came out of my mouth the thought came to my mind, "You are already here forever. I have given you my peace, and my peace is PERFECT."I had to stop and digest this for a minute, but it didn't take long to realize that it makes perfect sense. God's peace is PERFECT. It doesn't waver when things get tough. It's the same whether we are worshiping quietly in our rooms, or if we are our in the midst of the chaos of the world. We don't need to be face down on our knees with worship music playing in the background to experience God's peace. Don't get me wrong, private worship time is beneficial and essential to the life of a believer, but if we are not carrying the peace gained from that worship out into the world then we are not affecting the world for Christ.Isaiah 26: 2-4 says, "Open the gates that the righteous nation may enter, the nation that keeps faith. You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you. Trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord, the Lord himself, is the Rock eternal."I think we, especially Christians who read the bible regularly, have a tendency to glance over verses like this and not really take the time to let them sink in. That is one of the most incredible and freeing statements that any of us will ever come across. In fact, it probably is the most liberating idea, and there is nothing in this life that even compares to it. God says that if we put our trust in Him and remain steadfast, He will be our Rock ETERNAL. Eternal is defined as lasting or existing forever; without end or beginning. Essentially, he will be the rock of our past, our present, and our future in this life and the next. His PERFECT peace will calm and quiet the sins of our past, the trials of our present, and the uncertainties of our future if we just put our trust in Him.I have read things like this in the bible probably hundreds of times, but its amazing how when God grants revelation you can actually receive from His word. This audacious promise is just blowing my mind. Essentially, when we worship God in spirit and in truth, or, in other words, when our hearts are repentant and yielded to His will, He will keep us in perfect peace no matter what the circumstances. We all have the opportunity to live like Paul when he said in Philippians 4:12, "I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want." This is a guy who lived His life with an almost constant threat of being killed for his faith.Today, as you go throughout your day, the only seed that I hope to plant in your mind is that you CAN trust Him! No matter what the circumstances look like, no matter how hopeless or difficult it seems, you can carry a supernatural peace with you into those circumstances. You have an unbreakable promise from your Heavenly Father that His unchanging, relentless peace will guard your heart and your mind. So pursue Him and pursue others in love with all you have. Take risks, be vulnerable, and trust in the Lord your God. His perfect peace is the most evident in those moments when it is most necessary. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:7).
