A Promise. A Plan. A Purpose. For His Wonders.
“Then the Lord said to Moses, “Rise up early in the morning and present yourself before Pharaoh and say to him, ‘Thus says the Lord, the God of the Hebrews, “Let my people go, that they may serve me.” - Exodus 9:13
God told Moses to tell Pharaoh to free his people on 10 different occasions knowing that Pharaoh’s heart would be hardened and would have no interest in freeing the people of Israel. Exodus 8:32 states, “But Pharaoh hardened his heart this time also, and did not let the people go.”Each plague begins with a similar request from the Lord to Moses followed by the plague that was to come.Each plague ends with a similar statement about the hardened heart of Pharaoh and refusal to let the people go.The last verse when the final plague was threatened in Exodus 11:9 states, “Then the Lord said to Moses, “Pharaoh will not listen to you, that my wonders may be multiplied in the land of Egypt.”There is such power in that last part of verse 9. I think about the many promises of God in Scripture, yet how often I take the plan into my own hands with no assurance of the promise already given in Scripture. If God promises it, He must establish a plan, resulting in the completion of His purpose in fulfilling the promise. Otherwise, He would cease to be God because he would have made a promise with no assurance of fulfillment. It is His wonders being multiplied, not our own! Not our wonders on display but His wondrous, perfect, plan.

As I was reading through the plagues and the obedience of Moses, I recall the times I have given up on something after just couple attempts. I’ve shrunk back from sharing the gospel after sharing it with someone who showed no interest. I’ve prayed a couple of times before deciding in my own heart that there was no point and the prayer wouldn’t be answered.Moses was already promised by God that he would be used to free the people of Israel from Egypt and faithfully obeyed His commands. Hebrew 3:5 states, “Now Moses was faithful in all God’s house as a servant, to testify to the things that were to be spoken later". This is another example of the many promises in the Word of God that apply to each of us!Is there a promise you have read as truth but have not faithfully trusted in God’s promise?
