Question Yourself!

My dad and I used to play this game in our house where you would answer a question with a question and see who could go the longest.  My mom absolutely hated it.  To this day she still recalls how it drove her crazy.  Normally my response to her is "What drove you crazy?" (in an attempt to start the game again, haha!).  Problem with the game is you never really get an answer.On a different note, I was on an airplane the other day, traveling for work, and was stuck in the middle seat.  Normally I can find an aisle or window, but this time I couldn't.  I sat next to a younger girl (probably 18 or so), and her family was evidently across the aisle in the seats next to her.  She was very nice, but quite the talker.  She seemed like she just wanted to start debate/conversations around multiple topics that she was curious about.  She just kept asking questions, and when the conversation would hit a lull, she would ask another question.  Topics from politics, to religion, to family history, to completely random topics.  But it sparked conversation and thought, not just in her but in me as well.  Even though I didn't jump in and answer her questions, I wrote some of them down and did my own research when we landed.And after my flight, I was left with one thought, "Its good to Question Things."  I think even my mom would agree (unless its my father and I doing the questioning).So I started thinking about people who questioned things in the Bible.  I wanted to focus on two people or groups of people.1. The DisciplesI feel like there isn't a story in the new testament where the Disciples aren't questioning Jesus.  Just like I was told in school growing up, if you don't know something, ask.  They asked a lot, but in their defense, if Jesus was standing in front of me, I think I would ask a lot too.

• They asked about His parables (Mark 4:10, 7:17)
• They asked about Elijah (Mark 9:11)
• They asked about their inability to cast out a demon (Mark 9:28)
• They asked about the man born blind (John 9:2)

2. JesusYes even Jesus asked questions.  The question that comes to mind immediately is the one He asked of The Father, wondering if there was another way to accomplish the forgiveness of sins.

• Matthew 26:39 - "My Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as you will."

But Jesus also asked questions of other people to help them learn!

• Learn about healing on the Sabbath (Matthew 12:10-12)
• Learn about His identity (Matthew 16:13-15)
• Learn about having authority (Matthew 21:24-25)

So with all that being said, asking questions is a good thing.  Never hesitate to ask a question of God, of a friend, or of anyone.  The worst thing you can do is not ask, and go on not knowing the answer.Question yourself, question what you read, and study more to understand and find the answer.  God will reveal the answer to you, He IS Truth, so it comes naturally to Him.
