Stop Waiting and Take the First Step
At the beginning of the summer (late May-ish), my boss sent out an email asking for the days that we had planned to take vacation. At the time (which was about 3 weeks ago) I didn't know where I was going or what days I would need off. I had thought about going to Tennessee with family, and there were a couple of other potential trips I could take, but nothing firm enough to actually ask for the time off. I had also been talking with a good friend about being a counselor at a FCA golf camp in North Carolina for a week, again, nothing firm and I wasn't even sure if they needed my help.Late last week I realized I had still not responded to my bosses email and that I should probably do that. So I knew a couple of small trips I was going to take so I asked for them, and as I was writing the email to him, I had a feeling that I needed to ask for the week of the FCA golf camp. I struggled with this a little, because I had not even been asked to go yet. How was I going to ask for a whole week off when there's a possibility that I wouldn't even be going? But, I decided to find the dates and include them in the email anyway. So I went to the FCA website, found the dates, typed them into the email requesting that time off and went to hit the "send" button. Just before I sent the email, I got another email from the FCA camp director with the subject line "Pine Needles" (the name of the course where the FCA golf camp is held). I found this to be quite coincidental, so I opened it to find the words..."Will need you thus year, bro! Will explain later - but get some time off!" Seriously? This came through within seconds of me crafting the email asking for time off. When talking with him later, I told him this story and suggested that it was God having fun with me. And while I do believe that my God has a sense of humor, I have since changed my thoughts on the amazement of this timing.I believe God wanted to know that I was committed to this camp and was waiting on me to take the first step before filling in all the pieces behind me. Asking for time off is a big deal for me, and as soon as I took that personal step to ensure I had the time, God did the rest, rather immediately. I think I was waiting on God to tell me that I was needed at the camp and then I would ask. But He allowed me to make the decision and take that first step. Thats one of the things I love most about our God.How many times have you been waiting on an answer from God before you take action on something? Have you ever thought that maybe God is waiting on you to take action FIRST. There are many times and instances in the bible where God shows up in a big way, but in each instance there was a human act of faith and boldness that triggered the miracle.- Noah Building the Ark (Genesis 5)- Moses Parting the Red Sea (Exodus 14)- David & Goliath (1 Samuael 17)- Joshua & the Battle of Jericho (Joshua 6)- and plenty more...All these people knew that God would deliver them from the things they were going to face. But they all had to take action and have faith and confidence in God enough to do so. Can you imagine what happens if the action refuses to be made be any of these individuals? If Noah refuses to build the boat, the entire human race ceases to exist. If Moses doesn't raise his staff to part the Red Sea the Israelites are all undoubtedly all killed in battle. If David sits on the sideline and doesn't stand up, then they probably get someone else to fight Goliath who would more than likely have been killed. If Joshua hadn't led the army to march around Jericho for 7 days and blow the trumpets the Israelite army would have never taken Jericho. Are you waiting on God for something? Maybe God is waiting on you to take that first step. Go ahead and take the step and allow God to work through you just has He has done over and over again throughout history.
