The Dynasty of Christ and a Christian's Calling Within It

There are few words in the English language more powerful than the word "dynasty." When we hear this word, most of us tend to think of the great Chinese dynasties of old, such as the Zhou (1046 - 256 BC), Han (202 BC - 220 AD), and Ming (1368 - 1644 AD) dynasties. These dynasties were prolific, powerful, and left a lasting legacy on modern-day China. With that said, I propose that there is one far greater in modern-day. that is the dynasty started by our father when He sent his son Jesus to forever change the world. Let's take a look at the word and explore Christ's Dynasty. As defined by the Merriam-Webster dictionary, dy·nas·ty: is "a family, team, etc., that is very powerful or successful for a long period of time."One of the most fundamental truths of Christianity is that we are all brothers and sisters, all of the same family. We are all on the same team, working for the same truths, towards the same goals. Unlike the Chinese dynasties, God's dynasty is without borders; it is not constrained by time and has no finite ending point. While we as Christians may not be a blood family, we are a family (and a team) under God. Given that Christianity has thrived for over 2,000 years, I would say Christ's Dynasty has also been successful for a "long period of time."

Next, all dynasties are established with bloodshed, and ours is no different. Christ first laid down his life for us, as did most of his original followers. They paid the price in blood so that we may have an inheritance in His dynasty. This is different, though; we are all the heirs of the dynasty, the princes and princesses, so to speak. With the dynasty on a firm foundation, the second task was, and still is, to expand it. While the Chinese rulers expanded their kingdoms to gain power, we expand our kingdom to rescue souls away from our enemy and towards God. We expand a kingdom that preaches love, mercy, and selflessness.

So, just how does a dynasty expand?

Dynasties expand by going to war. Let's make no mistake; our enemy holds territory all around us. Our enemy is strategically defending his position and attacking our position. Every attack we make, he counter attacks. Still, we are gaining ground. Campus ministries, outreaches, small groups, conferences, and politics are the front lines of this spiritual war. As to our objective, it is simple; attack! We must foremost save souls and then train people up to be soldiers on our side of this war. It is absolutely imperative that we win this war.

Finally, what are the lasting effects of our dynasty? The Christ Dynasty is like no other. Being that we are all heirs in this one, every little action or inaction that we make has a lasting effect. The children that we raise are our dynasty. The friends that we build up and encourage are our dynasty. The underprivileged children that we love, the homeless people that we feed, and the leaders that we wisely council are our dynasty.

To God, every little action is significant because God is big enough to make even the smallest of actions significant.

Our dynasty is one that spreads love to the world, heals the sick and broken, and makes the world a far better place when we leave than it was when we got here.
