The Long and Winding Road: The Unlikely Path That God Takes Us On

Have you ever wondered why walking in God's will at times feels like a long and winding road? Why what seems to be His will is taking much longer to come to fruition? I was reading Exodus 13 recently and something dawned on me.

God's interest is not in the shortest path. He is most interested in the path that will work His good will in me. See verses 17 and 18.

When Pharaoh let the people go, God did not lead them by way of the land of the Philistines, that was near. For God said, "Lest the people change their minds when they see war and return to Egypt." But, God led the people around by the way of the wilderness toward the Red sea. And the people of Israel went out of the land of Egypt equipped for battle.

God sees all things.

He knows how we will react if that opportunity comes our way right now. He knows the state of our heart and what work needs to be done to prepare us for His will. The long winding road is not always easy, but we can be sure it is the path that allows us to be best able to embrace His blessing when the time fully comes.

It is always tempting to constantly think about what is yet to come. Yes, we should remember the end goal and what lies ahead as a means to keep us strong and motivated. However, we must not miss out on living in the moment. Building and investing in those relationships we have been presented with. Improving on that skill. We need to ask ourselves, what am I to be learning in this season of my life?

It might be that you are trusting the Lord for that special person or for a child.

It could be a change in environment or some adventure you are yearning for. Whatever it may be, God has His reasons for taking you down that long and winding road. And you can be assured that it is in your best interest and for His glory.
