What's Your Life's Aim? [This Matters for Christians]
What's your life's aim? Is it to be successful? Is it be an impact to the world, to make it a better place? To be a great spouse or parent? To be a witness for God? Or to use all the gifts you've been given to their most productive? Just to survive?
We can have a variety of "ultimate" strategic focuses, some of them more noble than others (seemingly anyway).
For me, it was having the most impact in the world for the Kingdom of God with the gifts I've been given, for which life's obstacles and challenges kept me in a continual state of falling short. The demands of fatherhood keep me in an exhausted state, the demands of work keep me mentally drained at the end of the day. How can I possibly impact the world in any global manner when so many other, small-scale demands interrupt that focus? My added value to the global Kingdom of God at the end of every day? Pretty minimal.Perhaps you have some goals you desire to achieve that you think has value to God or perhaps you simply are so overwhelmed with life or issues you can't even think on a strategic level. Or perhaps you have no idea what your life's aim is.God finally gave me revelation that it's not about the strategic high-level goals. It's the small thing that God's interested in, small in size and stature. The small thing is where He works. Are you small enough yet?
God wants us dreaming and praying in the strategic, but only with the correct aim.
It turns out He wants all our various life aims to be the same. We need to realize it's not about being successful. It's not about being impactful. It's not about being productive or giving our gifts back to God. Shoot, it's not even about spreading and preaching the Gospel.Yes, that's right, there is one thing that God's more concerned with than you increasing His numbers of souls. Regardless of what the pressures of what we're told to achieve or what we should be doing, it all boils down to being about one sole aim. It's about pleasing Jesus. That's it. In whatever it may be.

That's what we were designed to do and it's what we will be judged on. "Was pleasing me and me alone you're one drive?"This is why the Bible says in Colossians 3:23 and 1 Corinthians 10:31 that whatever you do, you do for the glory of God. In every tiny action, pleasing Jesus is your main goal. And when you want to please someone sincerely, you're sensitive to their requests over you and you alone. You don't just do whatever you think is best or whatever anyone else is doing or telling you should do.
It's Jesus's leading that's important.
He may want you to do something small, something scary, something hard, or simply to just pray. But if truly pleasing Him is your main goal, you'll do it and do it gladly. The action in and of itself is never the motive, the motive is pleasing the King. Do this over a lifetime and you can look back and realize, look at that, as a SIDE EFFECT of wanting to please Him, you were impactful, you were valuable, you did what you were called to do, and you changed the world in a very specific way. He handled the strategic all by Himself, simply through your small, unit-sized obedience and desire to please Him, step by step.
