Who said the tithe was only referring to money?
If you have been to a church recently when they speak on tithing or giving you will most likely have heard a story about how God has blessed someone financially as a result of their faithfulness in giving and tithing to the church. Maybe they got a new job, got a raise, or was sent an envelope full of money. Whatever it is, they are stories that prove God's promise for us to test Him in our tithe. The last time I heard this message, there were multiple pieces that made me dig in a little deeper and truly understand God's heart on the matter. While I could speak on a few of them I am going to focus on one for this purpose.Sometimes God will just speak statements to me and its my job to not only hear them and remember them, but dig in to understand what they mean. The statement i heard most recently when trying to understand the different aspects of tithing was, "Tithing is not just your money."What does that mean? Well it means different things to different people. And you may read that and think something completely different, however in this instance, God was using that statement to talk about TIME. Many people are ok with giving their money because while it does have a value on it, it is easy to give, and once you give its out of your control. I would argue that it is more difficult for many people to tithe their time. Tithing your time is something that is an ongoing struggle and takes a commitment each and every day.Just as God calls us to bring our tithe into the "storehouse" or the local church, our time should go to the same place. We should be giving our best and our first block of time to spending time with God and being present in His house. If you believe that God will bless you over and above your tithe financially, why would the same principle not work through you giving of your time?Do you feel like you don't have any time or are too busy throughout the week? Have you ever said, "I don't have time to go to church (or read my bible)?" Test God in this and give Him some of your precious time, and I truly believe that He will return to your more time than you can imagine.Malachi 3:10"Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,” says the Lord Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it."
